I swear this wasn't me but my wife!!! I received a panic call from my wife this morning that she thinks she has accidentally overwritten a very big and important spreadsheet that she is using at home. I asked her the steps and she opened excel, thought she clicked 'open' but actually clicked 'save as' to the default workbook opened. She then selected the file she wanted which in fact actually said to save the new file with this name. When Excel asked her if she wanted to overwrite the file, she answered yes quickly - she has a bad habit of not reading instructions!! In a nutshell, she saved the default blank workbook with her existing file's name. Needless to say, it's now my job to find the old file. Autobackup is not turned on and I checked the directory that autorecovery stores the recoverable files in case of a crash and it was empty (it wouldn't have anyway as she didn't actually open the file yet that she had wanted). Long story to an end, I have tried "Getdataback" and "PCInspector File Recovery" but not having much luck. Most products restore deleted files but in my case I am trying to get an overwritten file. Not sure if XP actually overwrites the data or just stores the new file in a different location and repoints to new location. I am hoping the latter but can't find anything that can tell me I have and the location of the original file. Any help is greatly appreciated.
