It shows live look ins. I thought TWC didn't even fully get Redzone up in time for Sunday. Maybe you were watching the NFL Network?

Edit to add this from a TWC NY guy:

That must be it. He may have been watching NFLN...which would have been showing their own studio hosts with highlights.

Exactly, actually i think NFLN shows box scores while they broadcast the audio, either radio play by play or tv play by play.

Maybe. I only watch NFLN for Thursday night games and that's it.

yeah, me too...I'm just going on what I remember them showing a few years ago when I had Comcrap. They would always scroll through box scores but you could hear play by play. Cyber36 had to be watching NFLN but thought he was watching Redzone

I just signed up last week for Time Warner Cable (to get TWC SportsNet Lakers Coverage) to go along with D* services. Today, I had an opportunity to check out NFL's version of the Redzone Channel.

Since we have multiple screens, I put the two Redzones side-by-side, as well as Game Mix and the OTA feeds of the CBS and Fox games.

For the first few minutes it seemed that both versions were were pretty much a duplicate of one another (i.e. the announcer would lead into the CBS/Fox coverage of a particular game by giving a brief description of the situation or the plays leading up to the "live" coverage that was about to be shown. Sometimes he may even give his own commentary on a play that we are seeing on the screen)

However, about ten minutes in, I noticed that NFL Redzone is actually delayed compared to ST. At first, I just figured that the delay (usually about 8 - 12 seconds worth depending on the game) was just simply a result of the lag between Time Warner Cable receiving the signal from NFL Network and re-broadcasting it to its subscribers combined with NFL Network's own delay in receiving and relaying the various CBS and Fox feeds. After a while, though, it seems that the delay is much longer that it should be.

Of course, both Redzone versions would show highlights and updates on plays that already happened (the respective announcer would make that clear). But, there were several instances when NFL Redzone would show what they would say as "Live" when it actually happened at least 30 seconds earlier. The longest delay in their "Live" coverage was about a minute and a half.

Now, I understand that if one were only watching the NFL Redzone Channel (with no other games on in the same room) the delay means absolutely nothing. However, it does go to show that the folks over at the Sunday Ticket Redzone Studio are putting in a far greater effort in their production to be able to switch from game to game as it happens. (ST Redzone, Game Mix, and the ST Channels are all in sync with one another and are only about a second off from the corresponding local OTA feeds)

It seems to me that NFL Redzone is picking and choosing what to put on (after it has happened) their broadcast. Even with the two games side by side, it's as if they have a feed of ST's Redzone in their studio and are just "mimicking" what D* is showing 10 seconds later after the fact.

    Just my observation.

According this article (if you scroll down to the last set of pictures, second to last paragraph) it takes a crew of 350 people to produce NFLST each week.

    Wow!!! That is impressive.

Great read. Thanks for sharing that. I would love to be able to take a tour of the ST Redzone Studios (or the entire D* LABC for that matter) one day.

I wonder if they offer public tours.

Yeah it is, but I wonder if thats a typo, that seems like a lot of people.

Anyway, I just called in and got RZ added for free too. I kept saying "cancel" at all the prompts and talked to a guy in what I'm guessing was retention.

Imagine the money D* could be making if they offered RZ as a stand alone for $99.00 for the season? Oh well, their loss.

I would buy it if they offered it for $99. I am not calling DTV and begging them to give it to me. I can live without as not to go through the hassle and haggling with them. Just offer it at a reasonable price is all I ask.

Lucky you. I have had very little luck in past when trying to get discounts(no luck at all with the NFL) even with being up to date on payments and having two sports subscriptions plus premeir package. I guess they feel like they have me hooked with all of that. They may just get fooled one day and I make another change.

I've had good luck, now having Directv RZ for the 3rd straight year. The first CSR was a no-go. The 2nd kept hard-selling ST and said there was no standalone RZ channel. When it was apparent I was not going to bite, she magically found the offer and signed me right up.

I just called to see if they would add RZ channel and instead she asked if I'd rather have Sunday Ticket for free for being a loyal customer - OK but I just wanted the RZ channel.

Has anyone gotten Redzone stand-a-lone for 2013 yet? I had it free last year just by calling up and asking.

Did you have to go to "Retention" or anything like that? Thanks!
