Can anyone confirm whether the RC66 control can turn off a Samsung UN48H4005A tv. The RC65 which I have does not appear to, suggesting a non-exact match which does not work, but the RC66 has one that is says should work. Also, does the RC66 have more codes than the RC65 as some descriptions say it does, while others say they're the same. I'm trying to find one (remote with a code) that will turn TV and Directv on and off together for my 85 year old mother who requires the very simplest remote for use. Ten minutes with a multi-remote and she can have everything inoperative (three times this week, an hour drive away for me). I have a plan to make this easier, but it does require the joint on/off operation of the two (don't even suggest a Harmony, WAY too many buttons). Thanks.

Yes, the 66 has some codes that the 65 does not have.
Go here, choose the remote, type in the brand of Tv,
Click on get code, write it down, then click on More codes and there should be several there.

Code 10812 should make a Samsung do most anything.

Code 10812 doesn't work on the RC65 I have for turning TV off, on OK, off not go. Also, I see conflicting reports on whether the H25 is RF compatible or not without an additional kit. Which is it? Thanks.

The H25 needs a "kit" to do RF.

    The Samsung came from Walmart?

Samsung came from Best Buy--bought it because it was suggested as good for SD which she likes to watch. She really can't tell HD from SD other than the boxes on the picture.

You need an antenna for the H25 as already mentioned.
You also need and RF remote. It will have a number like this, RC66RX

My mother is 1,000 miles from me and she is 91. When she got an HD TV I had her get a Samsung because me and my 2 sisters each have one. When she calls with a problem it is usually a message on the screen that says "weak or no signal". What she has done is to pick up the Samsung remote and changed the channel. When she does that it shifts the input / source to the antenna input . I have to step her thru how to get the picture back by setting it to the HDMI Input on the TV.

Well, your mother follows directions better than mine. I spent an hour on the phone trying to get her to do just that. She couldn't get it. We used the TV remote and the Directv remote--no dice. Drove an hour that night after work, took two or three minutes and all was fixed. But they are in their 80's and 90's. Trying to get things as simplified as possible for her, then I'll open the remote up and disable MANY keys to keep her from changing too much.

Get her code programmed in where she does not need the Samsung remote and put it in a drawer and leave her just the DTV remote.

As soon as I can find a remote and/or a code that will turn the TV off with the Directv turning off, I'll perform whatever surgery needed to internally disable most keys. All remotes other than Directv are bagged and labeled and put in a drawer for any further need. Every remote to her is the "TV" remote. Doesn't matter what brand or what it controls, it's the "TV" remote. Hopefully someone has a UN48H4005A (maybe available from somewhere other than Best Buy) that has a Directv remote model they have successfully programmed to turn the TV off. That's what I need. Thanks.

I have seen some new Samsung that do not work with DIRECTV®'s remote to control PWR. Only way is by sliding the switch

    Codes for the RC66 remote:
    12051
    10812 11632 10702 10060 11249
    11959 11395 10766 11903 11060
    12557 10329 10587 10650 10032
    10814 10178 10030 10039 10056
    10427 11618
There is an automatic setup using the RC65X or RC66X or RC65RX or the RC66X remotes.
You go to Menu, Settings & Help, Settings, Remote
Choose to set up remote, and follow the onscreen instructions.
Basically the Remote and the receiver talk to each other and sets the remote. It asks you to do something and then did it work.
If it did it usually works. If not you can do that again, then when it tells you that it found a code and asks you if it worked, tell it NO. It will move along to the next code to see if that works for you. I did this with my HR24 and I am pretty certain this works for the 24 and 25 models of receivers as long as the Remote has an X after the number such as I have listed already.

This is all in the Remote Manual.

Well, I suppose the newest remote with the most codes is the RC66 (ruling out the newer style which she would never be able to operate) and I guess I'll just have to buy one, drive up and try it. I am suspecting that nothing Directv currently makes will turn the TV off. Been through all the literature, but need some kind of confirmation if anyone has made it work. Thanks for the suggestions.

Do NOT even think about the new style ( RC7? ). It is JUNK for the receiver she has !

I guess someone has to say this: You're a good person. Not many people would go thru all that trouble.

Well, that's kind of you to say. I'm hoping someone will say, "I have this model TV-- this remote ????? and this code xxxxx turns both on and off" and then I'm golden. Detailed technical support of this kind is almost non-existent from manufacturers. Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.

I have the same problem with a Samsung UN40H5003 and a RC64R remote.
I found this link to the DirecTV forums where the poster tried a RC66x remote and it did not solve the problem.
    http://forums.directv.com/thread/11260628

I realize you are asking about a different Samsung model, but seeing how mine is acting the same, a RC66 remote may not help you either.

I also realize you don't want one of the newer remotes, but I can confirm that an RC72 with code 12051 does turn my tv on and off with the receiver.
I got that code here: http://www.reiderelectronics.com/pdf/RC71_IR_Codes.pdf

Sorry I can't help more, but if you do happen to come across a solution for the RC6xx remotes, please post back.

12051 is the first code listed in post #13 for the RC66 remote to operate that TV. It should work.

The following is the listings for the RC64 remotes. Note that the 12051 code is not in the list.
    10812
    10702 10060 11249 11312 11959
    11395 10766 10618 11903 11060
    10329 10587 10482 10650 10032
    10814 10178 10019 10030 10039
    11575 10056 10110 10217 10408
    10427 11618 11755*

If I listed the RC65 numbers, it is not in that list either.

That was my logic also. I did find that the code finder at Directv says about the RC66 "The following code should work with your model." and lists 12051. It may be a new code list incorporated in the newer remote. As an earlier poster noted, 12051 does work with the RC71. I don't know if the code sets are renumbered from one remote to another or not. The chart from "Directv University" for the RC71 shows that code, however I have been unable to find a similar document regarding the RC66 remotes. I have a RC72, I'll order a RC66 and take both. If the RC66 doesn't work (hoping the the link to the Directv forum is wrong), I'll try the RC72 and see how well she can interact with it. Thanks very much for everyone's assistance. I understand TV's keep adding features and remote code sets must change but it would seem basic functions like on/off and volume/channel up/down should remain constant through all sets. Of course, my knowledge of remotes at most is rudimentary. I'll report back the results this weekend.
