I have a R34 remote for my R15-100 receiver that is operating in RF mode rather than IR mode. In IR mode, the "D* and TV Power" off/on buttons used to turn both on or off... now it only turns the TV off and not the R15. Is this normally the case or am I doing something wrong?

I just got my RC64RB remotes (RF remotes) and once set up, they do turn both sat receiver and tv off and on. I would think the R34 would too.

A different remote question... >> asking in advance <<

Does the R10 and the R15 use the same remote commands?
Does the R15 and the HR20 use the same remote commands?

    Reason behind the question is:
R10 just had a harddrive fail and "D" is replacing with a R15... Already have a HR20 both will be installed in the same room/device rack... which is connected the house wide RF+IR system that allows the recorders to be seen+controled in all rooms of the house.

    I will have three D-DVR's
    (1) HR-20 set for device#1
    (2) still have a working R10 which is set to device #2
    (3) unknown R15... to replace non-working R10 which is set to device #1

Neither of the two R10's were set at the factory remote setting of device #0
*use JP-1 programable remotes to control all house hold devices*

The R15 and HR20 use totally different remote commands than the earlier R10. There are a total of three IR codes that are used between the R15 and the HR20. The R15 uses 00001 with an option of 00002. The HR20 uses 00001 with an option of 00003. Thus the most you could have would be two of one and one of the other before you run out of IR options.

Both also support RF remote, and there is no limit on how many units you can support on RF (three from any individual remote control, but no limit if using multiple remotes).

There have been a lot of posts on this topic, a little searching will find you more information.

    Carl -

Maybe I tried too narrow of a search or the wrong key words but I only got two results in my search and this message thread was one of them...

Thanks for the reply.. since you state their are soo many threads where I can find one of these threads about setting the receivers..

Some of the threads may have been in other forums, such as the HR20 or even the SD receiver. Not sure if you searched those, or just this one. The DirecTV remotes are common across the various receivers and DVRs, so discussion on them could show up in any of several forums.

Here is one thread with a link to a new Remote control FAQ.

Holler if you need more info.

    MaskedMan -

    What are the steps?

I received my replacement R15... dont have me go there .... It seems that after a software download the IR on the replacement quit working...

But when the replacement for the replacement show up I would like to have the step by step instructions on setting up the R15 to its second command set.. do not what to change the HR20 at this time as I plan on getting a second HR20(or like model) after the first of the year.... and will need its second command set for that unit.

    HELP!

    David,

Step 1 is to program the AV1 position on the remote to code 00002.
    (a) press select and mute at the same time, hold until led above AV1 blinks twice.
    (b) Enter the code 00002. LED should blink twice.

Step 2 is to go into the remote setup in the menu of the R15. There will be an option where you can change the receiver mode from DTV to AV1. Make the change and then you should be able to control the R15 with the remote in the AV1 position.

Step 3. When you get the third DVR (another HR20), program the AV2 slot on the remote to code 00003 (same procedure outlined above). Then set the HR20 to the AV1/AV2 mode. Then slide the switch to AV2 in order to control it.
