One bedroom will require an SD receiver for our SDTV. We will use our Tivo Series 2 DVR with this receiver. Question: Is the remote for the SD receiver IR based? We need an IR remote so the Tivo IR blaster can control the box.

It depends on the model, but yes, most are. We use a 301 with our TiVo. I think we ended up with "dish 2" remote codes in the TiVo setup. It really was very easy to follow the onscreen instructions to get it to work.

One issue we had was that the Dish turns itself off in the middle of the night. For a while I had a timer set on the Tivo to just change channel around 5 AM just before the first event was set to record. It did not change the channel right, but it did wake the receiver up so the next channel change happened correctly. My wife uses the TiVo almost exclusively now, so I don't know if it is still needed, or how she manages with that.
