Thanks. It ran for about 10 hours before I had to do a hard reboot. As far as checking the integrity of the HDD, Gparted says that my sda1 is a linux-swap partition, the sda2 is an xfs file system and the sda3 is an unknown filesystem. I couldn't check sda2-- gparted terminal directed me to xfs_repair(8) "if necessary". sda3 couldn't be checked either since it didn't have a filesystem. I'm a complete novice with linux. The extent of what I know can be found on page one of this thread.... although I always seem to have to add "sudo" to these commands, as the gparted terminal does not want to allow me access without it. I appreciate the help though, it pointed me in the right direction. At this point I think I just need to figure out how to undo the formatting and let the HR24 DVR do a fresh reformat. It's a new Seagate Skyhawk 2TB, which is what the Seagate rep recommended to me as a replacement for the Pipeline that I currently have. Cheers!
