What is the average time to receive a return box for a receiver. Installer disconnected one 3 weeks ago today and haven't received a return box yet. It was an hr20.

Call up DirecTV and request one again. Sometimes it slips through the cracks and is never sent out. There is also the slight possibility they don't want it back, but you'll find that out when you call.

If a technician disconnected it replacing another one then he should have taken it with him.

So it's possible the disconnected receiver is still active on the account. If so, you'll be waiting a long time for a return box ;)

My last three returns of H21s & HR21s all took second telephone calls to get their Recovery Kits.

That's the general rule. If they don't have it back within 21 days you can get hit with the non-return fee. As you can see though, some people have gone weeks and haven't gotten hit with the fee, although that is more likely the result of the return box not shipping out which is what is supposed to trigger the 21 day limit.

I called 3x in 3 weeks to finally get one return box sent. Had it not shown up, I figured I'd keep it but on the third call, it showed up 3 days later.

BTW, I recommend taking it to the post office and even with the prepaid return label, get a receipt. Not tracking, just a free receipt.
I had one time in the past where the USPS lost it and the receipt saved me a $250 charge.

Thanks for clarification. I had troubles with two different reps at Directv. The last one I talked with last night said the system was down.

My online account says i owe $250 charge for the receiver BUT it hasn't been 21 days since disconnection notice. I disconnected Mar3. My receiver was sent a few days ago.

Yet my bill still shows I owe????

    Thanks

So I guess you can finally see your statement on line? I have seen other people post that they were billed for the receiver when they cancelled. And weren't given enough to to send it back before being billed. Once they receive the equipment, they will issue a credit. So if you are on auto bill pay to a credit card, dispute the charge. Since from what I recall reading, it takes several weeks for them to actually issue the credit.

Two nights the rep told me they send a paper statement to my old address-duh I am not there. I have always been on paperless billing for 2 plus years. All of sudden they take this away from me. Anyways the rep said he would email me my statement within 24hrs.

Second night which is lastnight I called back as I never received the statement via email. Now this rep told me I was on paper billing  I said I was never on a paper bill. Long story short I signed in again to my account. Checked off paperless billing. Then my last statement shows up.

I had some credits and then noticed: 03/01 HD DVR Receiver $250 charge

Well, my service was canceled Mar3!!! and they billed me for the HD DVR before the service stopped.

Horrible business practices. And somewhat tricky in my opinion.

I am no longer at the old address.

Just to follow up. My online account now shows a balance of $0. They do still owe me $25 or something. I didn't manage to see that online.

My last two receiver deactivations yielded return boxes in two to three days... but that was last year.

I just deactivated a receiver on Monday and the agent said I'd have the box today, but it wasn't here when I got home. I'll definitely be tracking this and will post an update when it comes in...

This morning I received a robo-call from "Jane at DIRECTV" advising me to be on the lookout for my return box, which should be delivered in the next "few days", reminding me that failure to return could result in a penalty of up to $250, etc. It came from an 800 number, and this may be new, as I don't recall getting a call last year for my previous returns...

Assuming you get a return box at some point, make sure you get a receipt when you drop it off at the Post Office. DirecTV's return service takes weeks (months in my case) to ship a package back and DirecTV WILL charge you $250. You'll need a receipt and tracking number to prove your case. It took two months to get the charge off of my bill and they still hadn't received the returned unit.

And just now I received my return kit. I deactivated the receiver on Monday, got a robocall on Thursday, got the return box on Friday. I love that they even include tape for sealing the box!

I wonder if delays in having return kits delivered to the customers is a regional thing... it's been good here on Long Island for all of the times I've returned receivers.
