Where can I get an RF antenna for an HR20-100 (or what can I use that I may already have)? Haven't needed it until now where I'm moving it to a different location that won't work with IR.

Strip a piece of coax that has the slip on connector to expose 6.5 inches of center core . . .leave it insulated.

Or try a coat-hanger or even a bent paper clip.

You can get the RF antennae and RF remote from DirecTV. Although, I thought the HR20 had the RF antennae built into it. Are you sure you don't just need a RF remote. You can get one from DirecTV or on eBay.

And I think the RF remotes come with an antenna. At least, I have one in a package.

Only HR20-700 have a built in RF antenna.
The coax idea will work if you already have a RF remote.
If you need the remote you can but one from Directv for $30 unless they changed the price recently, that price gives you a remote and antenna.
You can get it at solidsignal as well http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?mc=02&p=RCIRRFBLANT&d=DIRECTV-4Device-Backlit-Universal-IR--RF-Remote-for-Legacy-RFenabled-Devices-(with-Antenna)&c=DIRECTV%20Remotes&sku=

There's two options... Remote alone is $25... Remote and RF antenna is $30...

Forgot about that little quirk with the HR20-100...

Some would suggest that is is a quirk to not have an extensible antenna.

Those people may not have any practical experience with Directv and small, fixed antennas for rf use. I have one on my H20 and it works fine. I doubt making it extendable would make any real difference.

Just want you to know I tried the coax without stripping it and it worked like a charm. Many thanks.

Ditto, my H20-600 worked perfectly fine with the small fixed antenna that came with it.

great to hear that it's working good. if you do start to have reception problems or out of normal behavior for the remote now look up how to to disable model ID of your remote is a RC64 or RC65 type remote. That cleared up a lot of lag for a lot of the customers I helped over the phones in my time with direct.
IIRC the RC34 and RC24 type remotes don't have the feature in them.
Strip the coax if you need to get more range out it for any reason.

And to be a little more clear on my statement that only HR20-700 has the built in RF antenna, Of the HR20's it's the only one. All HR21+ and H21-H24 units have built in RF antenna's. No D1x supports RF with out third party hardware, H25's need a special kit to support RF and I never got clear information on the C31 support of RF.
