I told my wife all the XDS will do and she said since I hadn't asked for anything for my Birthday a few days ago, that she'd get it for me, it's now pre-ordered on Amazon.

A relevant note in today's WSJ.

Piece argues that everyone (DBS, Cable, Fiber Providers) are in denial about households pulling the plug on PayTv, in large part b/c of Netlfix and other services.

I'm OK, You're Not OK, Say Television Executives

When it comes to video cord-cutting, TV executives are moving out of the denial stage. They are now claiming it is someone else's problem.
    [CORDHERD]

Consider comments at last week's Goldman Sachs media conference on the issue, which involves consumers ditching cable-TV subscriptions in favor of cheaper Web TV options. Verizon Communications Chief Executive Ivan Seidenberg candidly warned that just as cord-cutting devastated the traditional landline phone business, as customers went mobile, it would hit video. Verizon is in the video business through its FiOS network. But Mr. Seidenberg said that given FiOS's high capacity and ability to offer extras like 3-D, "we will be OK," whereas it "is going to be a pretty big issue for cable."

I got the new XDS in my mailbox on Saturday. Only 2 days after I ordered it from Roku. I set it up and watched The Event premier from Amazon for free. All non 1080P HD content is output 720P. I've also pre ordered a Boxee. The Roku was an impulse purchase. I've not subscribed to Nefflix yet. I am thinking about subscribing to MOG for CD quality music. Anyone know if Rhapsody is possible?

What, if anything, did Roku charge for shipping?

Hmm, now I have to decide if I want to wait until Oct 15th for Amazon to deliver it, or pay $10 and get it by Friday.

Wife, as she usually does, had a good point, if too many people pre ordered it ahead of me on Amazon, I might not get one from the first shipments they get. I ordered one directly from Roku.

I got an update on one of my Rokus last night. A lot more channels that I won't use. Also signed up for the HULU 9.99 a month trial. Had to call HULU and find out when the Rokus would be getting it and was told "soon". They gave me a credit for the first month. Should have HULU by then on the Rokus, they said.

Got my XDS linked to netflix and amazon so far. The box it came in, is the size I thought it would be. It's wee little guy, Apple tv must be real tiny, looks half the size of the XDS in the pics I've seen.

That's about right. The Apple TV is very small.

Gosh Hulu Plus is dangerous. I signed up and downloaded the app for the iPhone and iPad. It works pretty darn good. Going to me nice to have on the ROKU.

Watching Caddyshack now, love that movie. PQ looks pretty close to DVD quality.

Just "close to DVD quality"? That's a non-starter for me.
Or did you mean BR DVD?

Most content is only streamed in 720p and the PQ is better than D*'s 720p, I think.

I have had my Roku for about 9 months, extended wireless and I am amazed at how good 720p looks even wireless. I cant get anything to play in surround DTS or D-digital. Is that my problem or is that not available yet?
Not sure I would upgrade rite now cuz of how good 720p looks...
