:eek2: This thing is smoking fast compared to either of my other HR's...wow! So far, so good. Activated just fine...watching an old James Stewart movie!

    First impression of HR24-100.

Hooked this thing up and plugged it in, in no time it was to live tv.

Spend a few minutes in awe as I got the setting where I am used to.

Hit guide, and just for fun I held the page down button and Holy Crap is this thing fast. Not just fast compared to my old HR22-100's but just fast.:):) Oh, and it may even get faster. I am sure it hasn't gotten all of the guide info yet.

It may be my eyes, but I swear the on screen graphics look sharper.

I took some pictures, but they are blurry, so not much good there. :(

It will be interesting to see if there is a difference in speed between the -500s and the -100s...

It may be wishful thinking...however, I have the HR24 connected via HDMI to my TV, and an HR20 connected via HDMI to the same TV...same channel, switching inputs...HR24 certainly seems sharper.

I thought that also. I won't say anything to the wife and I'll see if she says anything.

    Lost all audio.

    Had to reboot.

30 seconds from the "-" to "Hello"
2 minutes and small change from "Hello" back to live. Damn. :eek2:

Both HRs go to a sony AVR, switching between the two is just switching inputs on the AVR. The HR24s graphics are shaper, imo.

Assuming you haven't switched the HR20 to an alternate mode and/or RF...

    Switch to the HR24
    Menu>P,F& Setup>System Setup>Remote>Program Remote>Advanced>Set Receiver Mode
    Receiver Mode = AV1 or AV2

Move slider to either one of those.
Mute & Select AV1/2 light will blink twice.
    0 0 0 0 3

    You should be set.

You can also set it to RF mode on AV1/2. Follow the on screen instructions.

Some of us (I for one) think the same about the -500. Color (in particular, blue saturation) looks better too.

My HR24-500 is absolutely brighter then HR21-200. Has both on same TV for months. Certainly different.

I'm sure there was a reason why Stuart didn't mention it in the First Look. I know the big writeup I did on my experiences with the -500 excluded that fact because I remember the $h!tst0rm about the HR23-700. :nono:

    Perhaps...in good time.

My dinosaur 2 megapixel camera just don't show the difference, but it is noticeable.
