I'm excited about the Food Network. What's odd is even those the SD and HD versions of the channel have different schedules, if you compare them, it looks like they are showing the same shows except they are showing them about an hour or so apart (Good Eats, etc. show up about an hour later on the other channel). There's probably a good reason, but it seems like a lot of extra overhead to support 2 channels.

I like getting a few new channels each week even if they aren't necessarily ones I watch a lot. It's a pleasant suprise and there's always at least one or two that I watch. I figure someone else out there is happy about getting the others.

Thanks D**. And thanks again Earl for letting us know.

Curious - Why roll it out like this if you aren't going to do big press releases with each wave?

    On a technical level:
    Slow and steady....
Do you turn on a FIRE HOSE in one instance, when you want to check your plumbing and faucets in your home?

    On a market/marketting level:
What has more impact to the "market" and consumer perspective...
One MASSIVE announcement, or a bunch of little ones...

Look at the number of people that are logged in this morning, as compared to the initial launch date...

The more HD channels the better, I don't care if I watch that station every day, once a month, or once a year. The more channels providing HD the more their competitors will make the jump, till everyone is there.... Of course then we will have to find something else to anticipate.....

The rumored list I've seen floating around here on specific channel launch dates, seems to continue to be close to accurate, which means I'll get my FSN and FSPT RSNs next week if it holds.... :D

While I would generally agree with this I really hate to think of all the bandwidth that will eventually be wated on religious or shopping channels.

No way... CNBC HD is excellent. Squawk Box looks good this morning. Talking heads are std but the graphics are HD. I figured CNBC HD would start before/at the same time as Fox Business Channel. I expect Fox Business Channel to start next Monday Oct 15 on DirecTV.

I'm not a marketing expert, but I have to disagree with Earl...I think you'd get a lot bang for the buck if you're in the news every week launching even more channels as opposed to one massive news release at the end (you can do the one massive one at the end as well !)...

I just thought of one channel that I would love to see in HD: the soccer channel...

It's always safe to bash those channels, because their viewers are usually females age 50 and up, and few of them spend a lot of time on internet forums.:)

As long as channels I really want are not prevented from being added due to lack of bandwidth, which will not happen for a long time, I don't mind any channel being carried. It's only a waste if if prevents me from having a channel I want. If I had my way, they would not carry any hack pseudo news outfits like cnn or msnbc, but DirecTV is a business and thus must cater to a large group of people. It is impossible for each subscriber to have only the channels they want without some kind of ala carte system. And, that would cause prices to skyrocket as they would have to drop shopping and special interest channels that pay to be carried as no one picks them.

Bottom line. There is plenty of room for everyone's favorites. Don't be selfish.

Would be sweet to have Fox Soccwe Channel and Setanta Sports in HD. Of course, we'd then need an HD feed from scross the pond to make it worth while..

Yeah, I'm not originally from the USofA either.

    Just another displaced Scouser. :D
