I like the idea of these kinds of apps, but the reality is that they won't work for me because of other considerations. Primary being that as I get older and my health gets more checks and tests, I get phone calls from people outside my contact list that I need to talk to.

That type of an app proved a major problem from me. My (91yr old) father was taken to the hospital and I was notified but one of the dozens of hospital numbers from multiple possible hospitals wasn't on my list and I slept through it.

Yeah, I don't see that as a solution either. Would work in most instances but not in all.

What happens if you're waiting for a call from a person that's delivering something and he's not in your contact list? If it just rejects the call...no delivery?

Yup, most calls I get have my exchange, 732, and come from a small town, Metuchen. I have no idea how they do this. Problem I have is some delivery people have phones with that same exchange and Metuchen comes up in their Caller ID. Simply put, I have to answer those calls if I'm waiting for a delivery.

I've been using the Advanced Call Blocker app for years. I have it set to Answer and Hang Up. That allows the caller to use my voicemail. Some scammers actually leave messages.

I suppose if you happen to know that you should be expecting a call from someone that won't necessarily be on your contact list, you could disable this function.

It may not work for everybody, and I'll admit I've missed a few important(ish) calls. But there was a point where I was getting 2 or 3 robocalls a day and I might miss an important(ish) (nothing major, doctor appointment reminders) one every 3 months.

But I don't really see how else to fight this. You're either going to have to live with robocalls and spam calls or switch to a default deny system where only explicitly laid out numbers (i.e. numbers in your contact list) are allowed through. For some, the latter may not work, but you're probably always going to have to deal with spam calls.

My app has lots of options. Or I could just set my phone to the DND (do not disturb) function for every call that wasn't a contact and I'd just have to monitor the voicemails. That would effectively stop all robocalls, I think.

I got a call from Rachel at Cardholder Services today. I thought she retired. Her caller ID was a local number.

I got one and I answered it with every derogatory curse word that I knew how to use to whoever was on the other end.
