I think my DVR is dying...... I have a directv HD DVR HR 22. Since Monday, (10/2/17), I came home from work and turned on my tv. The satellite receiver did not come on. I pushed the power button manually on the front and it came on, but I got the scanning disk for storage device problem message. It ran a scan and tried to fix it. ( think the last time I saw it it got to 6 %) I walked away and came back to the blue screen that said running receiver self test. It then booted up like normal and came back on, but I've never gotten that message before. I googled and read other things online about this being the signs of a dying hard drive. I logged onto our directv account and saw that we ( my family) has the protection plan, so do I just call them and ask them to send out a new DVR? Is there any kind of test I can run before calling directv? I've had the DVR for a while and I'm just wondering if directv would send out the same model HD DVR. (I don't mind having the same one.) I haven't had any problems with it until now.
    Thank you,
    Megan

    Phoenix,...
I had the exact same thing happen to my HR24 a couple days ago. Weirdest thing. I reset it and let it go through it's thing. Now I'm having problems with it not turning the audio receiver on/off like it used to. No storms here recently (I'm in Arid-zona), and I have an APC J25 Surge/UPS.
It's also freezing intermittently during live TV, but not during recording playback.

You have one of the worst DVRs D* has ever produced. Call D* at this number (800-824-9077) and you will reach the Loyalty department. Tell them what you've seen and ask for a replacement. You are due...overdue!

REALLY???? I haven't had an issue with it until now... what would they replace it with? We already have a genie in the house, and several of the wireless mini genies for our other TV's. I definitely want an HD DVR, also how easy is a new one to connect? I want to try to do it myself and not pay for a directv tech to come out.
    Thanks!

Might be the HDD, might be the HR itself. Don't see an HDD screwing up your AVR, that's certainly not a symptom of a failing HDD (that's a clue). I don't see a 24 in your sig, but I do see a bunch of awful DVRs. I'd be swapping them out for 24s and a 44, that 34 is really bad. Sure that's a 24 you're having problems with?

You would get an HR24, refurbished. All my 24s are refurbished and run well, don't be put off by that. The 24 is much better than your 22, you will see a difference. You can get a replacement mailed to you, then it's just a wire for wire swap to get the replacement hooked up. Simple. Is the Genie you have a 34 by any chance?

I have another question...... ( I'm pretty sure I know the answer before I ask it) I'm going to lose recordings on that DVR right?

if you could somehow _convince_ them keep your old DVR smart card in new DVR, then swapping HDD would bring back to you all old recordings ;)

You really have to start over when you get a replacement.

I do. I just don't see an access card doing that. Again, not sure.

Recordings are tied to the recievers ID not the access card. That won’t work. One guy here claimed it worked. He insisted. Latter said ops it doesn’t. Was watching over the air and hadn’t tried playing back the satellite recordings till latter.
