We've told you, numerous times, DirecTV!

Don't believe us? See it with your own eyes. Here's one of many places they use the term "Series Link" to describe setting up something that will record episodes of a tv series:

    http://support.directv.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1790/~/how-do-i-use-directvs-advanced-receiver-service-dvr%3F

    And another:

    Now, back to FXX talk...

Those links (correct use) are old. There is no current (or since I have been a customer) reference anywhere in the current interface that refers to the term "series links" the only place I have seen it (before that clearly outdated LINK) in on here and the other site. You just can't admit that you're using an old term. It's okay, that's why this site has the reputation it has.

I have seen a few ads on ESPN2 about FXX tonight and the copy on-screen says channel 619. I guess it's staying there, at least for now. I wonder what the reasoning is. Most people dont' know that Fox Soccer Channel exists and have no idea that FXX is taking its place. Heck, someone asked me the other day if Directv has Speed because Time Warner Cable took it away from them...

They are NOT old documents, they are the current support documents on directv.com. If they are old why does one, the second one I posted, refer to the Genie??? Again, not old. You are refusing to accept that you are wrong and that pretty much just makes you a troll looking for a fight.

    I'm done

We have a bad rep? Why? I've gotten so much out of this site that I can't believe others find fault with it.

I'm not speaking officially for DIRECTV with these comments ...

The generalized term for items in the "Series Manager List" has always been and continues to be "Series Links" (since 2006).

Those items in the playlist (when you hit the "List" button) are your playlist.

Unfortunately, I can't actually remember what the original 2006 terminology was for the Playlist as it used to be different. It was something like My DVR, but I'm not sure that is correct. The most recent terminology is definitely "Playlist" or "Local playlist" as there is also a combined playlist ("All") when using MRV.

Items in the Playlist are most definitely not called "Series Links," however items in the Series Manager list are called "Series Links."

I am not taking sides in this but I have often wondered where the "series link " comes from.

I just opened the manuals for the R16, HR20 and the HR34-44 and searched for those 2 words together.
Zero results in any of those 3 manuals.

You have to call them something. I think we should stay with what we are comfortable with.

This is the best site I have been on for trouble shooting and installing things related to TV.

Doesn't matter what something is called as long as you know what it is and does.

Why does it say I started this thread? I CERTAINLY didn't. I wasn't even the one who asked that series links was... I know what it is and told the person what it was referring to. I just think it's a dumb name that doesn't tell you anything, case in point since someone else asked.

Someone needs to get their act together.

Except he didn't. James Long broke it off from the FXX thread.

Yeah let's not jump on him for starting the thread, it just got pulled from another.

I call things series all the times if its a TV series. I call it a show if its at the movies. I call series a program sometimes too. There's lots of terms one could use to denote a series. They key is the series manager denotes what series are set for recording, not program, as program usually denotes a single instance of something in the TV world. A series denotes multiple of the same program, generally speaking. Same as episode is a single unit of a series. So the items in the series manager are series set to be recorded. The recordings for each series are linked together in a folder in the playlist because they are from the same series. Hence I believe the term series links.

Season pass isn't a bad name either, except to me it may denote that its only good for one season, not a entire series, so its not as good IMHO...

As usual I look back and think of my old replaytv who just did it better than everyone else... They called the list the replaytv guide, and you had replaytv channels for every recordings. So a movie had its own channel. A series had its own channel. It was just so smooth and easy to see. The whole dang interface was just better top to bottom than anything since.
