I feel the one best way to schedule a series is from the Guide directly. Not flawless, as Guide information depends on correct data from TMS.

I also wonder if scheduling via multiple methods could be self-defeating.

I always schedule from the guide, and have not missed recording a program on my HR44 "forever".

You probably confused it so much it thought you canceled it.

If it's not recording then likely you didn't do it the easy way and schedule strictly from the guide (double record press sets the season) you didn't set your priorities very well ( it'll pick up missed episodes on a repeats if it's missed due to conflicts so ordering series by channel number is a great way to make sure you get everything) setting it via far in advance or possibly via the all season has shown to be quirky when it was first introduced. But strait from the guide is as rock solid as ever for me and many of my friends and family.

If you are having additional issues maybe try clearing the guide cache. And if that doesn't work I'd suspect that you have a possible wiring issue or a bad hard drive or something. They just don't miss recordings all the time.

How far out does your guide data go in the guide itself?

For the most part, the Genie peformace has stabilized since the recent software update. My guide data is good for at least two weeks.

The paranoia technique I used while learning the new scheduling paradigm was to set up an event on the Genie and then a backup event from the guides on another DVR. This worked well when I was unsure which channels and seasons were what I wanted.

Schitt's Creek and Continuum are perfect examples of possible screwups not the fault of the Genie or the guide. Both of these Canadian series were first time runs in the USA but were treated as reruns by the scheduler because they were aired earlier on another non USA network. This often happens with PBS and BBCA stuff as well.

In these cases if I was alert, I would specify record both and then sort out duplicates later. If I specified New Only I sometimes ended up with misssing recordings that were caught with my backup events on separate DVR's.

Now that I am farther down the learning curve, I know to specify "this season only" and as suggested I have learned to work from the guide if the program airs within the next 14 days. In the case of "Coming Soon" series records which I never seem to trust, I merely put a reminder in my calendar to make sure I see a pending recording in the to-do list.

Using this belt and suspenders technique has saved me more than once. As I have gotten more familiar with the Genie scheduler, I confess I like it as I am making less and less blunders and have not missed a program in several weeks. Weeding out duplicates is less of a chore too now that the HR24-200 I use in another room now also lists the series and episode numbers previously only found on the Genie or in On Demand searches.

The joke will be on me if the reason I am having less difficulty is because the series we watch are pretty much winding down for the year and that the infrequently watched summer reruns take over the airways.

As always, thanks for your advice and counsel. I always learn something new from these exchanges.

    Dave

An update about the recurring problem of the Series Manager recording different shows from one listing. Apex Predator was and still is being recorded under my list for the show Meateater. Now a show called Shed Wars is also being recorded under my listing for Meateater. I have noticed other issues also. While scrolling through the guide I selected Info and Other Showings on a particular show. A completely different show name came up. The description and listings were correct but the show name at the top was wrong. This has happened several times. Not sure if these problems are related but they seem to be happening more frequently.

Since all three shows are on the same station, the cynical part of me is thinking the Sportsman Channel is deliberately "cross-pollinating" the guide metadata to either get you to watch shows it thinks you might like, or to report to advertisers particular shows are being recorded, whether or not they're actually being watched. :p

Oooooh, very cynical, but an excellent supposition! Might explain a lot.

I have thought that myself. I did send an email to Sportsman Channel last week but haven't gotten a response.

I had the same issue with my hr44 recording street outlaws under fast n load's series in the manager. Good to know it's not just my IRD. I just deleted the series the other day and re-set it to record . Didn't see the other show in the "to do list" now.

Same exact problem here with street outlaws recording instead of fast n loud. I am getting fed up with these type of issues.

I have a similar problem with the network show Elementary. Very often I will get 38 minutes of The Good Wife (what an awful show!) and then only the first half of Elementary. I have all showings set to record, and I delete them after watching. I'd just like to watch the whole thing!

All of this is happening because previous programs on this channel are running overtime and pushing your program back.
I add an extra hour to those programs and when I play them I fast forward up to the point the show I want starts and then watch it.
Try adding time to your program you want to watch.
