Never mind the graphics, Windows Media Center is hands down the best DVR implementation I've ever seen or used. It's the one and ONLY thing I miss about cable--so much so that for the first few years with DIRECTV I actually used two D11s connected to TV tuners and settled for SD DVR features.

Agreed. Had the DirecTV HDPC-20 been released, 7MC would rule the DVR world.

Short-sighted statement. Have you seen/used Media Center before?

With the new fcc rules you may be able to have a WMC box that can use D*.

I think this new Windows 7 Embedded doesn't require having a main PC in order to use it. I am not sure on that.

I'd love it. Everything I run is WMC-centered (Windows 7) - except for DirecTV.

What new rules? The one I read I think just dealt cable and being able to hook any cable provider up to any TV or Set-Top box without having to use the Cable companies software. Will this apply to DTV and Dish also?

I would have to answer no on this one. That's just my opinion. DIRECTV is finally seeing the results of their 5-year-long quest to develop all their receiver software in-house and to start again with another OS seems sort of silly.

If DIRECTV wanted to develop something like the aborted HDPC20 for WMC support I could see that, but I suspect the market would be fairly small for it.

No worries man. He thinks Ethernet users are in the minority. Next he will tell you you are in the minority as a Windows user.

Actually it could be quite affordable. WinCE devices had a $5.00 -$15/per device licensing fee. If this were inline with that, it would be very inexpensive from a licensing cents.

You would also take all the dev efforts you are paying for now and move it there.

Either way, D*s media share is still pathetic after two years of dev on it and MC would be a huge improvement over what they have now. Being compatible is where it is at for us.

DirecTV imbed Microsoft proprietary technology? I vote NO. :(

I thought we voted that down with HD-DVD.

Violating Wheton's Law again? What a surprise!

And yes, people who have ethernet run throughout their houses ARE a minority. I recall how you quickly changed your tune after that strawman was blown down. Do grow up. :)

Actually it was you who said it, I never would have, I know better.

And it was MRV users on Ethernet Vs DECA users. I still say there are more users on ethernet and will be for a while yet to come. D* eventually may move enough of the DECA gear to surpass the Ethernet installs but they haven't yet. Nice try though.
