Ever since the new HD GUI was installed on my two receivers, HR21-100 and HR24-100, I have found that one program on a local station, via my AM21s, is not recognized by using Smart Search.

The station is programmed by me to be a part of the Guide; I have to manually set the recording (a weekly show) each and every week. The recording is listed on the "To Do List."

When I try Smart Search, I enter the program's title, it appears as a "show."

I click on it and then I get - "There are no matching programs at this time."

Never had this problem before the new GUI!

I started seeing this problem with the new HD GUI on local channels. For example, a local series called "Check Please! Arizona" airs on the Phoenix PBS affiliate. I have the series set to record but none of the episodes ever records unless I go in and select it individually. Doing a search for the series results in the series title showing up as a "show" but when selected, it indicates there are no episodes available. When I go into the Series Manager, select the program then go to View Upcoming, it lists all of the episodes and shows that none of them will record, even when the First Aired date is the same as the date of the episode I'm looking at.

Other times, when searching for a broadcast network series, the system finds the series on an out-of-area affiliate that I don't receive but not on my local network affiliate. I need to go to the guide in and find the episode manually in order to record it from my local affiliate.

There's definitely a bug in the software.

I commented in a different thread, but after the new GUI, my DVRs have different search results. One listed the upcoming episodes of "Game of Thrones," while the other said it found no episodes pending (clearly wrong). Search has been an effective tool before, but now, I cannot rely upon it.

I am now using the Directv web site to search, and then using the guide to find the showing. Smart Search is broken.

Well in that case it makes a lot of sense for a DVR not to find shows to record...obliviously a non-critical bug - lets add some more VOD and picture and music functions before fixing this...

sarcasm sometimes is really sardonic - or is that the other way around ;)

maybe don't worry about YouTube searches until you can get the program searches to work?

Seriously DTV you can't build a DVR that can do a search of titles and show the results?
Maybe we do need TiVo again?
Or you know once you know about the bug that is critical to finding show to record, fix in you know maybe less than 3 months?

It's very capricious. Sometimes it's like it's almost psychic. Sometimes I only have to enter one letter (M*A*S*H*) and what I'm looking for pops right up. Sometimes I have to enter almost the entire word or phrase before what I'm looking for shows up. And sometimes I can enter the entire word or phrase several times and it what I'm looking for (Mystery Woman) won't show up at all. Yesterday what I was looking for popped up quickly (The Talk -There was somebody I wanted to see) but it included channels (390 & 391) that I don't subscribe to. I didn't know that at the time I figured it out after I tried to record it & got the message that it might not record because my DVR wasn't authorized for that channel. I had to actually try to tune to that channel & be told that I didn't have it that I figured out what the problem was.

Seems to be working fine this morning, (I've had the same problem). I am sure it was an easy fix. Parsing databases is usually the first thing tought in computer classes.

Last night I had a problem with QuickTune. It appeared on my TV screen with every remote command I entered. Resetting my receiver corrected the issue.

I have been having this problem ever since the new GUI was installed. I have three HR24-500s and each is the same. Most current occurrence of the problem:

Search for Life's Too Short on HBO. It starts this coming Sunday. I do a search and find the title. I select it and it says "There are no matching programs at the time." When I use the guide I can find it and set it up to record the series. When I look at my "To Do List" I can see the one I selected to record this coming Sunday but not any following weeks. I rechecked the guide for a week from Sunday and there is the program Life's Too Short.

I have called Directv and they are telling me that there is no problem.

What is my next step if I can't depend on Smart Search to find everything that is in the guide?

My 20-100 and 20-700 both find the upcoming episodes for "Game of Thrones" when I search for them. My 21-100 reports that there are no episodes pending!

Could we call it Slow Dumb Search? Wouldn't it be nice if you could rename the boxes in the menus? Instead of MyDirecTV you could name it Useless first box function.

I double-rebooted (two reboots within 30 minutes) my 21-100 to address another problem I'm having with missing guide data. After the procedure, the DVR listed the episodes of Game of Thrones that it previously failed to find.

I don't know if this will help the search function on other units, but thought I'd mention the possibility.

Did a search for "Talking Dead" over the weekend. It finds it after Talk is entered. However, after clicking on "Talking Dead", it says no upcoming episodes found. The Guide has it listed at 11pm next Sunday night.

So if the DVR search is not working properly, is that why programs in Series links that are supposed to record, sometimes do not record? If the DVR is dumb in the search for you, is it not just as dumb in its response to itself?

Smart Search is broken! I searched for Strikeforce (keyword) and the only thing coming up is pay per view. If I go to the guide I find it easily on Showtime. This is happening on a lot of searches. Before the new guide I never had a problem. Now you can't rely on Smart? Search at all.

It seems that certain channels are missing from the search. One of these is the main HBO. I had the same problem with Game of Thrones and Life's Too Short when I tried to set up season passes. Other shows and movies, which replay on HBO2 or other HBO channels, will appear in the results with only the HBOE & HBOW showings missing. So for that channel, I have had to set recordings by paging through the guide, very slowwwly (but that's another issue).

Did a search for "Awake" knowing full well it starts next Wednesday as I just saw a commercial for it. Thought I'd add it to my series, but the only thing it found was the 1004 VOD version. Had to scroll through the guide and find it in order to add it.

I'm sure they won't tell us when this is "fixed" either, so we can go back to using it.

I get this a lot lately. Sometimes I will find a program with an actor I like, so I do a search on that actor's name and it says no programs at this time.:eek2: What? I was just looking at one!
