I would hate to switch to Direct because of one channel, but I think it is part of Direct's basic package. Anyone know or heard if Dish is picking it up?

I've never even heard of the channel. Is this yet another narrow-focus sports channel with programming the average individual (even sports fan) would ignore with the exception of one or two big games a year? I know it's important to you but that was not my question.

I heard of this channel due to the advertisments at Ohio State Football games. It would be great for my dad if we could get this channel.

Surprised Tony didn't know about it. It was talked about a lot a few months back with the initial announcement. Direct TV came out immediately and said they would be carrying the channel. I believe it debuts in September. The Big Ten Conference includes some pretty big states and hopefully Dish will follow D*s lead and put Big Ten Channel on Dish. Judging from the programming information it is a must-see for Big Ten Conference fans!

Just like The Mountain is for Mountain West Fans. Don't see it on D* or E*, yet the games go on.

Papote, I think you're confusing The Big Ten Network with this Big Ten Inch ...

Ah! Okay.... So it is an expensive channel with only one or two big games to make people scream for the channel. The rest of the time it will play secondary schools and less "important" games. All the "real" games will be on ABC/ESPN. Kind of like what ESPN U did for the Cicninnati vs Xavier (not EGG-Xavier) cross-town game. ESPN put the game on ESPNU when they KNEW that 90% of the people interested in that one specific game had Time Warner Cable which doesn't carry ESPN-U. The screams were deafening. TWC did not budge. Since then there has been NOTHING on ESPN-U that is compelling for this area.

Does it show that I am sick of adding more and more relatively expensive sports channels with narrower and narrower focus to the basic packages?

We all would hate to have see someone with two (2) posts leave Dish over one channel, especially such an obscure narrow programmed one. But hey, if that one channel means that much, then see ya.

They should just make it an ala carte channel for a couple of bucks a month. I would only want to watch it 12 days a year---Fall Saturdays. I live for Big Ten football!

I realize that my minuscule post count makes me a person without a brain and not worthy of your company, but let me explain why this channel does have some importance to people.

It eliminates the need for the millions of Big Ten fans to pay extra for the college football and basketball package, thus saving the average person about $220/ year.

I have subscribed to both packages for the prior 6 years, making my investment close to $1300, on top of my regular programming.

    So, if Dish decided to

    a) either offer the BTN with an upgrade to the top tier programming package, it would cost me about $10 extra per month, or $120 a year. Which is saving me $100/year

    or

    b) off the BTN in the Basic package (like Direct TV) which would save me $220/ year

    or

    c) not offer the BTN, thus not showing many of the games the Big Ten fans want to see (since they would no longer be shown on Gameplan or Full Court.

But, for those not interested in sports, this is a non-issue. But many people are.

Hey iahawks, you forget to mention your "savings" (mentally) in not having to watch the Buckeyes open up a can vs. your Hawkeyes the next 2 seasons. ;)

We are thankful that Michigan and Ohio St are off the football schedule for the next two years. But, we all know how well Purdue did with that setup.

What does 2 posts have to do with anything? Sounds like a great customer that Dish would hate to lose. I will be a wait and see on this channel. If I lose games important to me I won't be happy. Would love to see it as an add-on to the Multi Sports Pack. Also add ESPU-U and others and make the sports pack worth the money ... even if we have to add a couple dollars to it. At least the non-sports fans won't complain... as they won't have to pay extra.

There was a thread about this channel in early 2005, I think.

Hey now, that is still a touchy subject for some of us!:nono: ;)

But, for Big Ten fans I think this channel would offer more compelling content than either CSTV or ESPNU.

I always enjoy watching Tiller and Purdue, unless you're playing Iowa, of course.

It's nice to know that the more post we have the smarter we get, your post was just overwhelming with intelligence.
He asked a legitiment question that hadn't been brought up for a while, then a idiot like you jumps all over him.

    Amazing
