Just an idle question for people, a fun way to pass a little time on a slow Saturday morning . . .

I checked my account online the other day and found I qualified for a discounted receiver option (free SD receiver, free HD receiver, free SD DVR or a $99 HDDVR). Since I've been looking to upgrade the MBR to an HDTV I picked the HDDVR. It'll be my third HR2x and fourth using that architecture. I've already got an HR20-700, HR21-700/AM21, and the R22-200.

So, anyone want to guess what I'll get? I'll let you all know after it arrives on Tuesday. :)

For you I hope that it's not a HR20. I tried two of them in the bedroom and they are just too noisey in that enviorment, heard the hard drive chatter all night long plus the fan. Ended up with a HR22 in there (HR21 was also quiet until I moved it).

HR22 -- I recently ordered a receiver and got (mistakenly!) a HR22 -- nice! (free). Then luckily found the H21-200.

I'm not too worried about noise. I have one already and it's not been noisy at all. And on top of that, my wife keeps an air filter/ionizer going full-time to help with indoor allergen control - between that and the ceiling fan blowing on high all night long, we do pretty well with white noise in there. :p

I wonder how many HR20's are left in the refurb chain after two and a half years and so many new models since then? But I guess the flip side is there will be more HR20's in the coming months as two year commitments are ending and people may be returning their receivers.

Well surprise, surprise. Directv's shipping department can be be very efficient when they want to be. My new HDDVR was delivered today: a bouncing, baby HR22-100 new in retail packaging, complete with HDMI cable and BBCs (which will go unused). :D

I think it's going to replace the HR21-700 in the living room next week after we get some of the programing on it watched. With the larger hard drive capacity, it'll get better use there, while the HR21 will go into the master bedroom.

I just checked my account and I have the same offer too. Not sure why I'd need a 5th DVR though. Maybe get an HR22 and send back the HR20-100 I have now.

I'd be tempted to take them up on a free HD STB, hoping it would be a a H21 or higher but with my luck it would be another H20.

Yep, that's why it's going under the 56" in the living room. We'll be going shopping for a new 32" - 37" for the bedroom this week. :D
