Will the software come in if my receiver on or off ?
Being in standby is fine, that is likely what you think of as off, which basically means the front panel lights aren't on and the outputs are off. Other than that, it's always fully awake.
Even in sleep mode or on software will come in ?
Yes. Standby mode (sleep) is really just that it turns the output to the TV's off and the front panel lights off. The DVR can't really be turned off since it wouldn't be able to record shows then.
Anything higher than you have now would be an update.
Please re-read post 20.
What will the software do ?
It usually fixes a bug or 2 or might give it a bug or 2.
Nothing for you to be concerned with. Let it go. It will download and install what it is supposed to have when you are supposed to have it.
You keep asking this question over and over again.
The 725 version is not being rolled out any more, presumable because of problems that have been reported. The receiver will say nothing about a scheduled update, DirecTV does not give this information any more.
No-one knows what the next release will be until DirecTv decides which software version to release next, and it will be automatically downloaded to the HR34 when your box is scheduled. Just forget about this, and get on with watching DirecTV!!

After I received 0x851 on my HR23-700 4 days ago, my program guide won't fully populate so I can't record programs more than 8hrs out. D* says it's a receiver problem and is sending me a new one. I suspect it is caused by a corruped 0x851 download. D* says they can't resend which is BS because they have done it for me in the past. So I'd like force a re-download of 0x851 & see if that fixes the problem. My problem is that I forgot how to do it! Can someone help?
Any download is checksum verified before it is actually installed/implemented. You can't get a corrupted download. While DirecTV can target a download to a specific receiver, no CSR or representative that you can get a hold of can do it, only engineering, and I don't think they have ever done so for a situation such as yours.
You can initiate a download yourself by resetting the unit, then as soon as it starts back up (the very first blue screen you see), push the digits 02468 in order and no other buttons. Do NOT do this on a Friday or Saturday night, so not tonight. Wait for tomorrow morning then do your download if you insist.
However, keep in mind every time you reset the receiver, the guide is cleared. If you are trying to get guide data to update by resetting you are defeating the possibility. You need to let the DVR sit for at least 24 hours, probably 48 hours, before you will see a guide beyond a day or two. There are other issues which can impact guide download, including incorrect satellite setup, so don't be too quick to blame software.
I actually would suspect corrupted guide data and want to fully flush the guide. Reset the unit and as soon as it's back to live tv reset it again then wait or two days and see where you are at with guide data.
Corruption could happen when flash chip is (become) faulty or something happened during reflashing like power brownout, etc
First, do a quick double reset to flush your hung up guide data. Then wait at least 12 hours before you check to see if the guide is populated.
This is a misleading statement for those unused to flushing the Guide. The quickest double re-set is two RBRs, which doesn't work to flush the guide; one must come back to operational before the second reset. Doing the resets via the Menu takes care of that, as well as being preferred to an RBR.
