Where did you find the open box deal? I used to find such things at our local Best Buy, I'll have to take a ride up there and see what's laying around. Half price would make me happy.

I use four tower speakers in my big AVR setup and they have built in subwoofers (why is subwoofer not word?) and they do sound good. But when the 500 watt Klipsch subwoofer kicks in it moves the house. I'd probably want the subwoofer and that would drive the cost up too much. Lots of pondering to do. My heart is still filled with lust...

With "some" soundbars. Buy an inexpensive Samsung soundbar and you will see what I mean. I've never been able to use a subwoofer with a Samsung soundbar, the bass seems to get mixed in improperly. On the other hand the subwoofer on the Polk is outstanding.

Reason #1 is why I don't use an AVR in the living room/dining room/foyer/staircase room. Open design rooms that haven't been configured for speaker wiring can be a real PITA.

    Amazon, of course!! :)

Back before the N950 was even talked about Vann’s had a few of them and they unloaded them for about 1/2 price. And they really weren’t even open box, just some that had box damage to brand new gear. None of the damage was on the actual equipment, just the box.

What I think happened is that the price point was high compared to most other soundbars at the time and Vann’s couldn’t move them and they got shuffled around a warehouse.

Yep, that’s why I went the way I did. I did look at doing an AVR and getting speakers in the ceiling and walls for the rear, but I’m old and decrepit and can’t do the work myself anymore. Got an estimate that took my breath away!! :)

BTW, there is a used K950 on Amazon now for about $725. No real good deals on the newer N950 though. But take a look at the Nakamichi Shockwafe 7.2.4 setup, under a grand and some comments I’ve seen about them on AVR have made me drool.
Nakamichi takes a different approach to the rears. They aren’t wireless but the subwoofers are and the rears attach to them. Depending on room the 7.2.4 gives you 2 subs so placement of the rears would be easier. But there is a 7.1.4 setup that is cheaper with only one sub and both rears connect to it.

I'll check Amazon. Forgot they had such a department. Thanks.

Agreed. That is the reason I use my Yamaha YSP-4300 in our family room...room layout and WAF!...:D
