I subscribed to watchindia.tv when my mom had come over to the USA. We had subscribed to Zee Marathi only (only legal option available in the US). The picture quality is strictly ok. I would not recommend watching on a large screen tv e.g 40" or more. The other thing is they broadcast straight from India i.e. the programming does not lend itself to watching here in the USA based on primetime shows etc. Their VOD, although clunky works quite well. However, there is some time lag between the episode telecast and VOD being available.
They did have a few outages while we had subscribed but it was not common. Overrall, for a few niche channels it is not bad.
You catch watch 24 Indian channels live with YuppTV. http://www.yupptv.com/ You can watch it on a tv (via Roku), pc, mobile tv or iPhone app.
I just got a flyer in the mail from Directv. Starting October 07, 2010 UTV Movies will be moved to the HindiDirect II tier and will no longer be part of HindiDirect. For those who are not aware, HindiDirect II costs $10 extra per month. Previously, only Sahara FIlmy was part of it. Sahara FiImy was never worth the extra $10. Now all Directv has done is push HindiDirect users like me to consider other options since after the $300 cricket ticket fiasco and now this.
Hi,guys i heard that stargold might be replacing this utv channels..
i do not care if they remove utv movies since utv movies not worth it...since same rerun movies....
now they removed times now...news which was better than ndtv 24 news....
if they will remove utv movies without any replacement ...then.....move to dishnetwork....
I agree. Directtv is making me hit that button, where I cancel their Hindi Package Service. Infact, I am more inclined towards cancelling entire DirectTV. They are not worth the money that I have to pay. I pay 70$ for American channel, 10$ for HDTV, 30$ for Hindi Direct, COMCAST will give me Phone, Internet and TV for below that money. I wonder if DirectTV guys are thinking or they are not.
people get tired of removing channels.....so we decided to move back to dishnetwork after 5yrs with directv......
got hd free,3tv..(2 due dvr)
one regular hd....hindi elite pack...and top 120...with $50 credit....
1st bills(from this web site....http://www.retailmenot.com/view/dishnetwork.com)....
3 month hbo and show time
1st yr bill,,,,74.00 then 89.00.....
we did not want to sign new contract with direct tv....since expensive for english and pay for hd...
Is there any new Hindi channel coming on Dish Network?
talked to programming department in Denver office....303-723-3368 who is also indian(general manager) one week ago who.
i asked them to remove starindia one as package and replace with star india plus(star india one not worth for $12.50 as two channel),,since starindia plus doesnot have much options for sony or apa ka colour.....
He gave me update below....
they are trying to reduce $10 for mega pack price and they are talking with astha channel also on dishnetwork?
this changes coming in two months
so wait and watch.
Thanks for info hp
Star Gold is launching in the US today on directv.
stargold guide has same movies as star plus and star one so people donot get different movies test which is require to enjoy movie channel......too many star channels on directv...they need different company but direct tv own by fox groups
True and moreover they are on hindi direct II which is even bad.
Atleast another channel shows up on Directv i.e. Star Gold. Three movie channels in Hindi Direct II makes it more bearable now. I now consider Hindi Direct II an ok upgrade. Previously only Filmy was extra for the $10.
I called Comcast today and their hindi offering in Houston, TX is limited to 4 channels (Sony, TV Asia, Star India and Zee) for $33. ATT U-verse is no better with $35 for 4 channels. Directv is now getting competitive with DISH in that they have a few worthwhile exclusives (NDTV 24x7) and three movie channels. There was a time when Directv's hindi line-up was weak.
In addition, I consider Directv's HD quality to be top notch so with preferred choice and hindi direct II I think the package is attractive. Ohh and not to mention, I got free hd for the next two years just by asking. So HindiDirect II upgrade today costs me nothing. It makes my pain from Cricket Ticket 2010 a little bearable. Now if only Zee TV and Sony made it over to Directv.....
Commonwealth Games from New Delhi October 3-14, 2010 on TV Asia with highlights from 8pm-10pm ET and live stream from 10:30pm-11am ET: live.indiatimes.com/cwglive.cms
i was with direct tv for 6yrs around...when asked for hd free ...no way....take package of $68.99 ....which is too much so when u take preffer choice...38.99 and $10 for hd....so 48.99...this package goes up everyyr ...3dollar since last 5-6yrs(this package used to be 29.99).....with limited channels add on......
1.utv movies.....same craps movies everyday...and star plus purchase those movies so same over and over.......
2.used to have filmy.....not worth penny......bad channels for movies
3.stargold.....#3 channels in india but this channel not worth while star plus and star one has same movies ....go to startv.com...usa....same guide....same movies.....
news corportation has big investment with direct tv so getting all starchannels....
dish charges ...expensive for international ...good price for american
direct tv....too expensive for american.....ok'ed price for international
this is my view......of both company.....
UTV movies still coming on hindi direct I...i thought it will be gone from 7th oct?
That would be amazing if Zee TV and Sony come to DirecTV. I know that Zee TV is on DirecTV Latin America, but is yet to reach the US version of D*. If and when that happens, business will definitely pick up.
I believe Dish Network is much better then DirecTV now.
