To some, such as myself, that is a waste of $$. I watch my 49ers, which I can watch on my local station every week, and RZC....in the two seasons I've had NFL ST I've watched maybe 3 out of market games total :D

I agree 100% being I get the 49ers (and Raiders when they sell out) I pretty much see the games I want to see. Having RZC would be the bonus I am looking for, 50 bucks for one channel over a few months is a lot easier to swallow than $200-300 for ST. I still feel RZC should be part of the Sports Pack it seems to be a perfect fit with NBA, ESPNU, and CBSC all disapearing from it RZC would be the kicker people would need/want to keep the package.

I have gotten shot down 3 times this morning via the phone trying to get the free Red Zone channel added to my account. I have been a Sunday Ticket subscriber for 7 years. I was offered a one time discount of $150 off the price of Sunday Ticket since I'm already getting money off my account every month for another promotion. I would have jumped at the $150 off most years (that is usually about what I get off on the Ticket with Free Superfan), but this year I am really trying to cut back on expenses and I really only watch the RedZone channel anyway.

I was escalated to a supervisor in the Retention department and she wanted me to fax over the screen shots of the people's "activity" list which shows the Red Zone Channel being added for free. She claimed that she would have this removed since it was not supposed to be able to be added for free or as a stand alone product. I was polite with her, but after she said that I basically hung up on her since I knew I was not getting anywhere.

I swear I can tell within 2 seconds of talking to a CSR if they are someone who is going to be able to help me out.

I sent in an email to customer service as well to see if I can get any traction that way.

My interest in RZC is due to the fact that I'm in my teams (NY Giants) market. There's no other specific team I want to follow, but to see what's happening in the league in near real-time would be of interest to me. As far as the price difference, would you rather pay a phone bill of $50 or $180? A $50 charge for RZC in 5 payments only adds $10/mo. to my bill, while the ST for $180 adds almost $40/mo. for the 5 mo. period.

Horrible comparison. Phone bill and ST? Really?

I'm not saying RZC is not good for those who want it. I'm saying that, IMO, $180 for EVERY NFL game is a better deal that $50 for the 1 channel.

It would depend on how much you are watching any game when its not on RZ than just watching Red Zone. I would call it equivalent to paying for HBO instead of the whole Premiere pack.

Something you don't want has absolutely no value. I don't want every single game. Like most fans (I think) I watch my teams games, and then like to keep tabs on the rest of the league without having to watch 13 other games.

That's exactly what the Redzone channel provides. Besides, isn't ST like $315 this year, nearly twice the buck eighty you keep tossing out for comparison?

Been exchanging emails with clueless csr's, keep being told it's only part of the Sunday Ticket package. I hope they really are clueless and not lying to me, I do so hate being lied to.

If you go back, you'd see I got the $180 from a guy who turned down the $20 off for 6 months offer but would pay $50 for RDZ only.
$50 for RDZ rather than $300 for ST is a no brainer...RDZ wins.

I did not see that, fair enough.

In turn I recently got free HD for two years and $20 a month from retentions along with Redzone for free.

So for me an additional 300 for stuff I wouldn't watch much of (though I do like the mix channels) vs free is a bit of a no brainer.

I don't understand how paying $130 more for something I don't want makes me an idiot?

On the 4th call I was finally able to get the Red Zone channel added for free (and got ST canceled).

I called the main number - said Cancel; and then Cancel Service to get routed to the Retention department.

From there I was very polite and said that I have been a loyal ST subscriber for the past 7 years, but my wife and I were looking to cut down on our monthly expenses - so we were going to have to cancel Sunday Ticket this year. I said that I had really only watched the Red Zone channel for the past 2 years anyway so I didn't need the full ST anymore. I said that I was looking at switching over to Xfinity or uverse because they have a stand alone red zone channel. She was very nice and said that I already had too many discounts on my account so she couldn't offer me anymore money off per month for ST, but she would see what she could do about just adding the red zone channel. A few minutes later she came back on and said that she may have to "play with the computer" for a bit to get this to happen. She ended up having to remove the Sunday Ticket from my account first and then just added the Red Zone channel back on. I verified that it took on my account.

I guess I won't believe it until I see channel 703 working the first Sunday of football season, but for now I am a happy camper.

I think the main thing was is you have to find a CSR that is willing to work outside of the main script and possibly threatening to cancel the service entirely helped the cause.

    Good luck!

Saw they have that package for only 7 bucks too. Been looking around and Dish seems like the best deal as far as price goes.

Congrats on getting the RZC. I believe that your right, you need to find a CSR that will go off the script for you. And being nice only helps the situation.

I tried via e-mail as well to get RZC but was shot down. The first response was the normal canned response about only getting it via ST. I responded saying others have gotten it, and even included the screenshots, but their response was "Thanks for taking the time to write us. I understand your concern regarding the Red Zone Channel. As stated on our previous email, the Red Zone Channel is available from DIRECTV as part of NFL SUNDAY TICKET."

I tried the email route too. The first response was canned, so I responded with the screen shoot and just asked that it be looked in to. They responded back saying it was sent to someone for "special handling."

I got a reply back at 830 tonight that said "Please know that not all offers are available for every customer. I reviewed your account and I found that your account does not qualify for the Red Zone Channel as a stand alone channel.

At DIRECTV our customers are important to us and we do make changes to our programming and services based on feed back from customers such as you. I am forwarding your comments to upper management for future consideration. We are constantly looking for new and exciting ways to provide our programming services."

What bothers me about this response is that it doesn't answer the real question about what the requirements are. So I responded back thanking them for their response and asked what the requirements are for which my account doesn't qualify for.
