But cable here doesnt carry NFLN.

So what football fan would switch to a provider that doesnt even carry NFLN.

To me then they really arent a football fan.

You really think ST is a disadvantage to Directv? All the money they make from commercial accounts (bars, casinos, etc) seem to say otherwise.

There seems to be somewhat of a misconception regarding ST subscribers.

I live in my home team's mkt and have lived here since I became a DTV subs in '99. I have been a ST subs since that time.

I sub to ST for the choice of watching a game that I might be interested in other than my home team, or on a "bye" week, late games when my home team's playing in the early games, etc.

While I would like to see the RZ "unbundled" for those that are only interested in that channel, I wonder how many ST customers are out there that also live in their home team's mkts.

I also don't understand the apparent issues with ST from some subs. How many, that have called CSR, have already received RZ as a standalone?

Regarding the other part of discussion, it's been discussed before, wasn't ST open for bidding back in the day? That's my understanding of it.

I was just able to get the RZC for free this season.

I called in trying to secure the new customer deal for Sunday Ticket, but got shot down. But, I mentioned going to Dish since I have some deals from them in the mail and no need to stay with DTV if I can't get NFL games, etc.

Oh well, I am happy with RZC since I was content with going into the season just getting whatever games came my way, even though I don't live in the Steelers home market. At least I won't be stuck watching the Redskins get blown out if I don't want to watch them.

Yep....directv had won the bidding with $700 million per year for their current contract which runs thru the 2010 season.

Last year they got the deal extended thru the 2014 season because they upped it to $1 billion per year & no other provider was going to even come close to that.

& i should mention because this usually comes up too, that Directv already knew that the redzone channel run by NFLN that dish, fios etc. have was in the pipeline when they did this extension.

???? We watched NFL Network all the time on Comcast. I have no idea what you are tallking about.

I see you said cable here. So your cable doesn't have NFLN, got it.

I wonder why D* doesn't offer RZC like the way they use to do a few years back with NBA TV & LP where if you were a NBA LP sub you would also get the NBA TV Channel otherwise it would be available to everyone anytime via the Sports Pack. So why not have the RZC part of the Sports Pack available to everyone anytime then if your a ST sub you would of course get RZC included...

    Just my suggestion...

DirecTV's version of RedZone has long been one of Sunday Ticket's selling points. It was yet another reason to subscribe to the package. Offering it separately reduces the worth of Sunday Ticket to some degree. (I don't understand the interest in the channel, so its worth is less to me than it is to others.) When you've got a $1 billion check to write to the NFL...you want all the Sunday Ticket revenue you can generate. You want to enhance the offering for consumers...not the other way around. They can either lose Sunday Ticket revenue by allowing a standalone RedZone option or they can lose subscribers who switch providers for this one channel. Just as I said during the Versus issues...I sincerely doubt that a substantial number of customers would jump ship over a single, part-time channel.

Then let it stand on its own, if they are making so much money on it.

Since they only allow RZ with ST, it makes ST a disadvantage to bring in or keep almost all football fans who are in their home market, period. It is obvious. Therefore this thread, therefore CSR options to offer it up where they need to, etc.

Anyway, it is clear to me. It should be clear to DirecTV executives, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and people certainly make different choices about what they want to see. I am not going to argue this any further. But statements such as "virtually no one sees ST as a disadvantage" are clearly delusional. The vast majority of football fans in their home market would consider ST to be a disadvantage due to the inability to get RZ without shelling out for ST. Other major competitors are at a clear advantage in this. People could still choose DirecTV, but the ST only option is a negative to be weighed in with everything else.

The bold part...That's not who ST markets towards. They focus on the hardcore fans out of their teams market.

two.. for the money that Directv is paying for Sunday ticket.. I would flat out buy it, IF I could get my local teams on the channel. that one thing alone, prevents me from buying it. because the sound is superior.. the picture is superior.. its all better with directv..

I think its a major shame that the locals prevent you from doing this.. You are getting the same feed.. put it on Sunday Ticket already.. because right now.. with this economy, Sunday Ticket was the first thing that I dropped last year.. and I never got called about a "better deal" to keep it. .

Not entirely correct. Your local station shows local commercials that generate revenue to pay the local employees of that station. The Sunday Ticket feed does not.

I think what he really is concerned with is the bundling of ST and RZC. I personally know of two people that got DishNetwork because they wanted RZC and could not get it with DirecTV. Just sayin'. If I know a couple of people there is probably many more out there thinking the same thing.

I am a little frustrated myself, but I am NOT going to Dish. Been there before, once was enough!

By the way, NFLST's RZC is nowhere near as good as D*'s RZC.

Have you only tried the retention route once? Retention CSR's have a lot of flexibility. If I were you, and wanted it that badly, even though I've been shot down I'd try with a retention csr (you can get them directly if you say "cancel service" at the voice prompts) at least once a week, and if needed, everyday that week leading up to the first NFL sunday. I'd probably try a different tactic each time.

Beg, plead, fake cry, tell them your son is crying, offer to pay, offer to give up some credits (which would be a way to pay for something that they don't have a price for now, but should because you are willing to pay for it), offer to add a premium channel, whatever. Tell them that you are interested in NFLST, BUT you want to do RZC for this season to gauge whether you think it will be worth it for next and future seasons. But I wouldn't stop with one call and I would always go directly to retention CSR.

Tell them if you knew about the premier NFLST deal you would have done that but you were too early by a few weeks because you just had to leave cable.

Tell them you know of others who have it and never let a conversation end with you not being "eligible." Tell them you know a variety of people have it with different circumstances with DirecTV, yada yada yada.

As a last resort, threaten (or hint or something to that effect) to cancel and say that your cable co is willing to pay the ETF.

Also my rule is that I only speak to female retention CSR's. I find them to be nicer and more helpful. I hang up if I get a male retention CSR and call back. The female ones are super nice and love talking about family and kids and stuff. Many will sympathize with your heart-broken son story. Maybe even try calling the female retention CSR on speakerphone with your son and let your son ask the lady CSR if they can add RZC to your tv package, and have him say that he's willing to pay for it out of his allowance. Coach him first before letting him speak so he sounds nice, polite, but with a hint of little kid sadness and innocence in his voice.

I know recently you have been venting about how this is jacked and all that, but if I were you, I wouldn't give up until at least after a dozen calls that were made directly to female retention CSRs with some ridiculous superhuman effort thrown in. CSR roulette isn't just about who you draw (And like I said, hang up unless it's a female retention CSR), but also how you speak to them and work your magic.

Ugh, I just posted on another thread if this was available as stand alone... What are my chances that I get RZ channel as standalone if I call DTV's customer service???

Has anyone actually got them to give it to you without ordering ST?

Like I said, you need to read the last 15 pages of this thread. You'll see PROOF people have been able to get it. Whether you will be able to, cannot guarantee. But as in my last post in this thread, I suggest you call and get yourself on directly with a retention CSR (by saying cancel service at the voice prompts, that will connect you to retentions) and see what they can do. Just don't let them say you need NFLST for RZC, because you'll see in this thread screenshot proof of standalone RZC.

That's an awfully long thread to read all 20 pages of... If they are giving others the channel, I don't see how its legal to deny some people...
