I tried yesterday with no luck.. the CSR told me I have to have Sunday Ticket to get the Red Zone Channel. He gave this lecture that you have to get a subscription package to get Sunday Ticket on every other provider such as Dish, Comcrap, Time Warner, etc. I said look.. if i can get it for $7 a month on Dish or other providers, why cant I cant get it the same price with DirecTV? He said, because it is exclusive if with Sunday Ticket. I just rolled my eyes trying to be a nice as I can with the guy said whatever and hung up.

I'm confused about what is happening with the Red Zone this year. Will NFLST subscribers be able to watch both versions, the NFL Network Red Zone as well as the DirecTV Red Zone? Or will we only be able to see DirecTV's Red Zone?

DirecTV does not carry the NFL's version of RedZone. They carry their own version. They are almost identical. They have a different host.

Thanks. They could have at least given it a different name so it would have been slightly less confusing. But hey, they are the NFL who are we to argue.

They are different. One is The NFL Red Zone Channel and the other is The Red Zone Channel. :)

I would have gone over during halftime to help them eat that cake. :D

I believe the former is properly "NFL RedZone," no "Channel" (and no space between "Red" and "Zone"). Slightly less confusing.

I thought the NFL Red Zone commercial was pretty clever with the changing jerseys. I didn't see the ST commercial, but based on the description above, sounds pretty stupid (and inaccurate if they are using the term "highlights").

RedZone is for highlights...live highlights. The party was occurring at the home where guests could watch entire games, not just live highlights. If I find video of it, I'll post it. I don't just want to see the TD's. I want to see what it took to get there.

If I left my preferred setup at home (RZC on one screen with 2 games full-time on 2 other screens) and had to choose a party to go to: 1 with RZC and 1 with the game of choice of the host, I'd go to the RZC party.

So basically Sportscenter, but with live highlights. Hmmm...might as well record them and watch them later. My wife would probably prefer RedZone since she isn't much of a football fan. Then she can just skip to the "good" parts. Football-lite works for some I suppose.

But again its not just TDs as sometimes they follow the drive from the 50 all the way thru to the TD.

& when the term highlights is used that implies "not live" which obviously is why they use it because they want to take a shot.

& isnt it kinda like taking a shot at their own RZ channel that they promote & now give to some subs as a standalone since its essentially the same channel as NFLNs.

I like ST better than RZ but directv is blatantly lying in that commercial....im surprised they dont get asked to change it cause didnt they or dish have to change a commercial or slogan a few months ago because it was so misleading ?

The one advantage of the host's single-game choice party is that it provides ample commercial time for bathroom breaks and socializing. But that means I see less football than the 3 straight hours of constant action at the RZC party. Commercials and football-lite works for some I guess.

There is nothing dishonest or misleading about the commercial though. I'll post the video of it as soon as I find it. RedZone is for live highlights. DirecTV's version of RedZone is part of the Sunday Ticket package as an additional feature. Redzone by itself is what it is. There's nothing wrong with that. If live look-ins float someone's boat...go for it. For me, you can't beat a mix channel, RedZone, every single game live, shortcuts, To-go, etc.

Except the party host had Sunday Ticket. So, they had the option of the mix channel and choosing any single game they wish. They could to another game or the mix channel during commercial breaks.

Yes there is - i said what it is - highlights "implies" not live.

Like the old MNF halftime "highlights" segment with Cosell....that was tape.

& thats also obviously the reason they say highlites because they want people to think it isnt live....thats the "shot".

    IMO thats misleading.

Unless they say something about it being live or live highlights in the commercial itself. I cannot remember if they do.

    Does it?

    –noun
    3. Also, high light . an important, conspicuous, memorable, or enjoyable event, scene, part, or the like: the highlight of his talk; the highlight of the concert series.

I don't think so. A highlight is a highlight, be it live, recorded, or told around a campfire.

I have never thought to check in the past, so what happens to channel 212 on DirecTV during the Sunday games? Is it just blacked out, or does the NFL Network use an alternate channel for its Red Zone Channel?

Huh? NFL Network (Ch. 212) still broadcasts during the Sunday games, it's different from Red Zone. It's just a bunch of stats on the screen or something. Tried to watch it once, but I got bored waiting so long to see the stats I wanted to see.
