You are not understanding what I am talking about. I completely understand that I don't qualify, but have talked with numerous representatives who won't even acknowledge that they have done this for other accounts. All I wanted to hear were the qualifications on how they are giving this channel to people, that it is. I wanted to know why I didn't qualify as opposed to some other people who have not been with Direct TV as long. Basically through five calls, they called me a liar and state that there is no way possible for someone to receive the Red Zone channel without having the Sunday Ticket. Do you get what I am talking about now?

I too would be interested in knowing how they determine who gets it or not. My guess is that it's a combination of longevity, current package, current discounts and payment history.

Luckily, all it took was one call for me. I told them that I used to have Sunday Ticket, but couldn't afford it. I said that I was granted Red Zone last year and wanted to see if it was possible to get it again this year.

Me, from post #821 in this thread........

My guess is that one criteria for being 'in good standing' is never being late with a payment, and/or having it automatically withdrawn from one of your accounts each month.

I could tell that the retention CSR was reading from a card or computer screen, and then he actually said he was doing that when I asked him if he was indeed reading something.

Except when I called, I said I had no intention of leaving. Still got Red Zone for free.

As have others. All I did was post my story. You may have been fortunate because of getting a good (or weak depending on how you choose to look at it) CSR, or for some other reason not shared with me by my CSR.

I got along very well with mine, and he answered some of my 'probing' questions, but essentially as soon as he activated the RZC for me I 'took the money and ran'. :D

I've been with Direct TV a little under two years, and I did complain that I should just leave them and find another provider that offers just the Red Zone channel. I have autopay so I am have never been late. I'm just dumbfounded why I do not qualify. I may have to give it another try here sometime.

    Regular 1800#.

I said, "Cancel", then "Cancel". (I'm not convinced this does anything, but they never ask you about your responses when you get thru; you could probably say "Orange" + "Banana" and get same results.) This is my standard response to DTV prompts. :D

I told the CSR that 1) DTV had offered me Red Zone Channel at no cost in 2010, 2) I was hoping they could offer this again. At first he said RZC required ST, but I gently reminded him I had gotten it without ST in 2010. He looked it up and saw the entry in my account history. He put me on hold for about 3-4 minutes and when he came back he said he could add it for free again.

    Time on phone: 17m38s.

Just got it for this year (had it last year). I called the regular 800# and said retention. Told the CSR I wanted standlaone red zone channel like last year and this is where I had to go to get it last year. Took her a few minutes on hold to set it up. Total call time was about 10 minutes, not bad.

Called today and talked with a regular CSR. Told him I had it last year and wanted to know if I was eligible this year as well.

He couldn't find the standalone Red Zone in his computer but searched my account history and found how it was noted on my account from last year. He then was able to find it but he still couldn't add it for me. He contacted Retention, transferred me, and it was added without question.

Thanks for the Redzone Channel again Directv!

I went the email route to request it, just as I did last year.

Received the "this channel is only part of the NFL Sunday Ticket package..." response.

I then replied that I did receive it for free last year and might have to consider other TV providers as having that channel was the reason I kept D*.

Received another reply stating how they "understand how important it was for me to get Red Zone Channel", and the rep determined that they "needed some extra time for research and investigation before providing you with our final reply". The rep "escalated" my email "to a specialist who will personally research the issue and reply to you".

Next email I received was from a different rep and she said "I am sorry to see you were considering leaving DirecTV if the Red Zone Channel is not offered as a stand alone channel". She then went on to say that she "confirmed that the Red Zone Channel is packaged with NFL Sunday Ticket, however since we appreciate you so much, Mr. carlsbad_bolt_fan, I was able to make an exception and add the channel to your account for free again!".

She then went on to say that they were offering "our most valued customers an incredible offer on NFL Sunday Ticket". I just have to respond to the email with my phone number and that someone will contact me within 24-48 hours.

Don't think I'll take them up on the offer. But I'm glad I got the Red Zone Channel for free. :)

I am thinking about trying to get Red Zone free this year(never have had it). But I was wondering does DirecTv somehow "cap" how much Free stuff or discounts you get a year? I wouldn't mind getting Red Zone but if getting it hurts my chances of say getting $10/$20 off a month on my Bill if I try getting a discount later I might not fool with Red Zone. At the moment I am getting $10 off a month because I have AT&T services, $10 off a month for the next 7 months from Refer a Friend,$5 off a month for 3 more months on Sports Package and $10 off or 5 more months for HD service. So in the next few months I will be contacting DirecTv to get bill lowered as my discounts expire.

    Thanks

I called in the beginning of July to see if I was eligible for the standalone Redzone channel. At the time the regular CSR had no information about it but he noticed my account was flagged for a free HDDVR upgrade of one of my standard receivers and he offered $10 off for 12 months and $5 off for 24 months for being a loyal customer. He told me to call back later to get the Redzone channel.

I called yesterday and I was still able to get the standalone Redzone channel even with the discounts and free equipment and new commitment.

I just called retention and after some checking, was told that they aren't offering standalone RZ channel any longer. (she acknowledged that they were just a short while ago) Instead, she offered Sunday Ticket for free.
