I love the RedZone channel, but having every game available sure is nice. The option is always there.

Especially at halftime. That's when Andrew will do a studio highlights show, usually consisting of highlights they've already shown live or nearly live. So instead of watching that, I'll check ESPN.com and see which game has come back from halftime or hasn't yet gone to halftime and flip directly to that.

Once or twice during the season, all halftimes will overlap, but usually there's at least one game that's live.

Basically, I'd rather see a team driving from their own 30 than watch plays I already saw a few minutes earlier.

I'd rather watch the games develop as well, hence my disinterest Red Zone. If I only watched Red Zone, I might as well just wait for the highlights on Sportscenter.

I didn't order it yet. I was calling simply to get info what I would be offered. The Rep, Patricia, made a note on my account that I would be calling back in the future to add to my account.

I have the type of luck, that if I ordered it last night, it would show up on my bill next month.. LOL..

Figure I'll wait and see if anything changes. Maybe they'll have a better deal...who knows.. :)

RedZone isn't just about inside the 20s, they show you every good play and not just highlights. I have ST to watch my team out of market but the second TV is always on RedZone.

Does anybody know.... if I somehow manage to get RZC for free by going the retention route, would that add to my contract? I only have 2 months left, and want to explore my options after that time. Free RZC would probably keep me at Directv at least through the season, but I don't want another one or two year contract.

    Programming doesn't extend contracts.

Guess I will give it a shot again in a couple of weeks, I hate calling in asking for retention. Just wish if there was a deal to be had they'd offer it. Like many I would be willing to pay for RZC an extra $5-10 a month would be fair I would think.

Well, I finally got it added to my account...after going round and round in emails to CS, each time a different person telling me its not available a la carte....finally I attached the screen shot I posted earlier in this thread that shows it on someone's account and lo and behold, the response to that email was "I've added RedZone Channel to your account, thank you for being a DirecTV subscriber" :p:lol:

I hope they make it easier to get next season, like offering it as a clickable option online (I've said from the beginning, I'd pay for the damn channel ), this CSR Roulette is getting old just to get things done :nono2:

I called in to cancel my service because I wanted to be able to get the RedZone Channel without buying the ST. The gal says she can give it to me for free and that it runs thru October 31st. I said, "so I will get half of the season free and then have to pay for the rest"? She says "no" the Redzone Channel does not show playoff games. But of course the season doesn't end then. She just kept saying that it did. So I called back and got another gal that told me the same thing. That it only ran until the end of October. Anyone know what that is all about?

I emailed customer service, nice email stating I would pay for just that channel and also included a screenshot that shows it on someones account. Got the usual response that its not offered "ala carte". I responded by asking how do you explain the screenshot showing it on someones acount. Awaiting there reply

Tried again, and still no luck. Sent an Email this time. Glad we have a little while before the season starts. $9.99 for 5 months sounds fair to me. Hopefully the email route will work.

WOW...Thanks to this thread, I have RZC now.

I did NOT go the rentention route. I swapped a couple of emails and the last one asked me to call them.

I called, explained everything to the rep, and even when she said it was not available, I nicely stated that other folks are getting it, and read her the exact description.

8 minutes later, she comes back online and says she has added it to my account! Woohoo!!!!!

    Here is my screenie!

impressive they did it pretty much via email. I have sent a few msgs via Twitter and told they were not offering it, on the phone I was told I must have D* confused with E* and Xfinity. I sent a final email Friday and they told me "we cannot comment on future channels being added." That made me wonder if maybe by the end of August they might just turn RZC on for more people or include it within another package besides ST. I figured I'll give it one more shot closer to the start of the season.

Last season I left DTV for 24hrs just to get the Redzone Channel. Unfortunately, Comcast service in my area is virtually unwatchable and I returned to several nice discounts and credits.

Having followed this thread very closely, and seeing what worked and didn't work, I put my plan of attack together.

I've never been an NFL Sunday Ticket subscriber, so I was without that leverage. Based on the success stories above, I began my email campaign on Friday (using the email support link from the website and selecting Programming, Sports, NFL Sunday Ticket as my Subject). Just a simple "I see this channel is now available and I'd like it added please". I got the standard "This is only available as part of our Sunday Ticket package" with the usual cut and paste about how even with Red Zone you don't see everything, yadda yadda. To that I replied back with the screen shot provider earlier in this thread, and another very polite "Here's an example of someone receiving it, I'd sure like it too" email. The reply I got to that was basically "we value you as a customer, please call to discuss further".

This morning I placed that call, and it took about 20 minutes of "It's only a la carte with other carriers, and it's not the same channel" stuff to finally convince the rep to talk to a supervisor. After about 10 minutes on hold, she returned and said it had been added, active from 7/26 to 10/31 (I believe someone above got the same response). I asked why if the NFL season goes until January, to which she said she didn't know and that's all she could offer.

Not wanting to push my luck I thanked her and figured I'll wait until October to worry about extending it. (and yes it does appear on my account, at no charge).

I'm sure not coincidentally, 10/31 is the completion of the 8th week of the NFL Season, the exact mid-point.

Something is in the works I think as they seem to offer some discount or exceptions for the second 1/2 of their sports packages.

Keep trying gang, and in my experience with DTV Reps, it's best to kill them with kindness. Routinely thank them for their effort and time, when they pop back in saying "sorry for the wait, just one more second" just say, "no problem, appreciate the help". You get too aggressive and they shut down really quick, keep it light and positive and you can keep them engaged long enough to get just about anything.

Awesome, thanks for the comments. I will try the email route as well and see where it gets me.
