That's dumb. Game 5 is at home. FSN needs to get it together.
Saw this in today's San Jose Mercury News re: last night's game and TV troubles in the Bay Area:
"The game started at 7 p.m., rather than 7:30, because of national TV in Canada and the United States. Versus aired it nationally, but it is blacked out when the local carrier shows a game; Griggs said CSN called Versus at 6:15 p.m. to ask about lifting the local blackout, but Versus' East Coast office was empty. (Versus' HD channel was not blacked out, so quick-thinking subscribers could see the action there.)"
The question I have is, if your local team is on Versus in HD (i.e. Detroit in games 4 & 5 of this series) and your local RSN isn't showing the game in HD, will D* black out the Vs. HD feed on 604?
PLEASE let me know if you have any insight into the way this works.
SD or HD doesn't matter. Blackouts are blackouts. Unless there is a mistake. Sometimes the HD feeds don't get blacked out but it's pretty rare.
I'm pretty sure it will be in HD. There have been a few home games this season where it wasn't listed as HD on the NHL website but were indeed in HD.
I called FSN Detroit, they told me they didn't have plans to cover Games 4 or 5 in HD. Terrible.
My understanding is that those in the CSNBA home market should have that feed, and not have access to the CBC coverage on Versus. The only thing I can't be certain of, though logically it would make sense is that it would apply to HD feeds as well. Luckily, as someone in CSNBA's home market, I tuned into Versus until CSNBA switched over and 654-1 had the game. Let's hope they at least split box the feed tonight if the baseball runs long.
Hockey in HD on Versus tonight!
Yes, woohoo!!! DirecTV = epic WIN tonight!!!
Now if we could just get these CBC/TSN feeds in HD on Center Ice
Glad to hear it for you guys. Just watch we'll see a post somewhere complaining that Golf isn't being shown.
Just to clarify, the VS HD feed was also blacked out for us D* customers living within the Sharks market territory. The VS SD feed went black first, followed a few seconds later on the HD feed. The only folks who didn't get the blacked out VS HD feed was reportedly the Comcast cable customers...Ironic, wasn't it....
I live in Augusta,GA and we have HD hockey on DirecTv AND Comcast so it must be a VS/Golf channel thing.
BTW GO PREDS!!!
Actually since Golf isn't broadcasting "Live from The Masters" in HD I guess they wised up and put the hockey game on in HD.
You bring up a good point, it is a VS/Golf issue. In the year that I have been a member on this site, I have come to realize that it usually is an NHL, VS or FSN issue and not D*. Yes, there are exceptions (the first 2 hours of HDIC 2007 come to mind). However, these are the exception and not the norm.
Actually, those on Dish with VS/Golf got golf as it says in the guide data.
Here is the thing that hasn't been mentioned. Comcast has separate channels for Versus HD and Golf HD but only makes that available on their own Comcast systems (imagine that). The combined VS/Golf HD channel is only available to everyone else. On some cable systems the Versus HD feed might be shown on the Mojo channel. So DirecTV was able to get that feed and show it instead of Golf. Not quite sure how they got away with it but they did. So far anyway.
Looks like the Avs/Wild game will be joined in progress at 9:30/6:30 (it starts at 9ET/6PT). I hate when this happens, and it happens every year. They need to make the CI feed for the game available at least until Vs switches over to the game. I just hope the Flyers/Caps game doesn't go into OT otherwise we could miss a lot of the Avs/Wild game.
The EPG shows D channel 775-1 @ 9PM eastern showing the Avs/Wild
They should all be on CI for just the reason you mentioned.
Yes, but it depends where you are. Here in Augusta we have the combined channel because our local COMCAST has no bandwith left for HD. It again shows golf in the guide (unlike D*) and it is hockey.
D Ch 775 & 775-1 have FSN North Wild pre game show on !!
