Another new diginet signs on today, Start TV. Aimed at women. I wonder if Dish will add it?
Probably not but today we got FOLK on channel 218
In Glorious SD
Folk TV does run a lot of old series though. I cannot find any info on the channel on the Internet so far.
Actually it did light up "today" (Wednesday at 3:15pm).
I doubt this channel will last long ,probably gone in a week. Are the episodes of Roy Rogers and Bonanza public domain episodes or what other programs does it show?
We need new channels like we need a hole in our head. With the complete lack of creativity none of the channels we already have carry shows worth watching.
What channel # is Start tv? I didn't see it in the uplink. Thanks
Start TV is not uplinked. The reply was talking about Folk TV.
I like the old TV shows and I could care less if they are in HD, as when I originally watched the show as a kid, we sure had no HD. In fact 480i was even unheard of OTA. Many older people like me, near 70. likes the shows. But too many run the same shows over and over. There are so many good shows from the past. I wish we would see more of them.
Perhaps my eyes were better when I was a kid, but I do not recall analog NTSC being as bad as some current SD content. The "old" TV shows seem to be coming from SLP VHS tapes. It is almost like they lost quality when they were mastered from their original source to whatever the channel is playing today (a digital file server ripped from DVDs?).
I think some of the sources that some channels use is not the best. I have watched many old TV series on Amazon Prime and most look very sharp. I agree some of this does look like old video tape.
If Folk is nothing but Public Domain stuff, it's probably similar to what the ad channels Xtra and Valu occasionally do on DirecTV every few weeks. Take public domain shows and wrap them around a long form ad so it's essentially an infomercial with a public domain show as filler.
The thing is, you'll get tired of it real quickly since for some of the shows only 6 episodes are in the public domain.
What programs does Folk TV show?
Yes, most of that stuff is free without ads on You Tube. It is amazing how many TV shows are now available in Public Domain. What is the time period? 50 years? I am sure some of it is not in demand so why should the studios care about it.
I think it's 95 years.

I agree. So many of the SD channels that are the diginets (Ota, or Dish) look like crap. It's like the SD quality from DirecTV. Dish has the best SD for most of their feeds of any I've seen. But I'm watching Alf right now from MeTV and if up close its OK. But far away it's a blurry mess. I mean it's better than nothing. But I don't understand why the video is so poor? VHS transfers? If these were film they could be HD quality.
I love the diginets. It's about all I watch and I'm 33. But the quality needs to improve badly. I don't need HD, but I need better SD.
so far, Folk TV shows are:
Life of Riley
Adventures Ozzie & Harriet
Weekends are filled with Forensic Files & movies
Mon-Fri has a lot of TBA blocks that needs to be filled.
The Guide is not being updated very good with Folk TV compared to other channels.
Folk TV seems to have some sort of programming deal with program distribution company Trifecta Entertainment as Last Shot with Judge Gunn, Forensic Files and Celebrity Page air on Folk TV (Judge Faith also airs) Are the movies Folk TV shows all public domain? Forensic Files seems to be a program that can be acquired by any old channel. Why is this? Wasn't infomercial channel ICTV (channel 81) showing a few episodes a day of Forensic Files, has this stopped now?
By looking at a lot of the quality on Folk TV, I would guess yes. As the quality looks like it came off You Tube.
