Great post Marlen.
Just a reminder to everyone, Bettman work for the owners including Dolan and Snider.
BTW - yesterday when I turned on the Philly game it was the Philly Comcast feed and I got really excited - wow something has changed! Oh but it turned out when a commercial aired it was a game from the Comcast SF Bay area feed. Oh well it was a moment of hope.
Great thread, and you're right.
However, all that "growing the game" stuff is bull to the Dolans. All they care about is maximizing profit. I have no idea how holding back HD helps their profits, but the holdback must be helping their profits.
Thanks Wilbur_the_Goose. My point at growing the game was directed at the commissioner. You're right - Dolan doesn't care about the growth of the game (but he should). The NHL seems to control everything else relative to how the fans view the NHL. From the Logos to the uniforms to the equipment that they are allowed to use - is controlled by the league. So why wouldn't something so fundamental to the "user experience" as broadcasting your highest quality signal to homes to "hockey fans from the United States to Newfoundland" (sorry about that one - credit goes to Foster Hewit HNIC) - This should be mandated as much as what a team's 3rd jersey looks like.....
Think about what the NHL does in the towns that host the NHL Allstar Game. They go all out to bring in new people to the game with a carnival like atmosphere. All in hopes of gaining a greater fan base and growing the game. What happens when "little johnny" goes home after an experience like that and turns on NHLCI to watch the Sabres play the Islanders on MSG - and he turns to his dad and says...."Hey dad whats wrong with the picture? Why is it so washed out and fuzzy"...."I thought hockey was always to be played with a puck - where's the puck"? "little johnny then slowly walks away from the game on the TV and heads to the game room for a little X-Box 360 in full1080P......Another lost future fan of the great game of hockey.
Again, all great points. The issue is that the NHL isn't run by people with your insight.
The insults continue. 774-1 is the Sharks feed, so of course they are currently showing college basketball, on a Center Ice channel no less. 787-1 is showing up both online and in the guide, but of course has the D* splash screen when I tune to it. Can't even get the out of market HD broadcast for my last game in 2 weeks
See - my long rants must be working! The Sabres feed from MSG in HD is now on 774-1! Unbelievable. Actually I think it's as mistake as I was trying to record the Sharks HD feed, but it had Basketball on it. I waited a bit - and the coverage switched over to Rick Jennerette and MSG....Oh well Let's enjoy it while we can
refresh the remote....very weird
I'm watching an MSG HD feed on channel 774-1 right now. Sharks at Sabres.
Whoa! After I was done typing my rant, I went back to check out 774-1 and there was MSG HD! Unbelievable! I wonder if they did it because the Sharks feed was showing CB? Whatever, I'll enjoy for tonight
Same here. I'll begin watching it after the 1st period of Philly/Montreal. Is everyone else getting the NHL network feed in pillar box?
flyers - canadiens in hd - no pillar box.
anyone know why we are getting MDG HD feed? was a deal done? Too bad the Rangers arent playing tonight. I was out this afternoon - did anyone catch the Islanders to see if their feed was in HD?
Devils game on MSG+HD is blacked out - sabres game must be a mistake. Thanks at least we get 1 hd game this season
I think we're getting it because the Sharks feed had a college basketball game on it. If you check out the Sabres HD feed, it's still not on there.
UPDATE: It was only the pregame in pillar box. The game is now coming in fine
Will they cut the feed midway thru the game? I'm taping it (DVR) so I may need to record 638 as backup...
This just in - the Donans are sitting in the corner having another hissy fit.
THANKS, DIRECTV! THIS IS A FANTASTIC THING, EVEN IF IT'S ONLY FOR ONE GAME.
(I really am thankful - I'm not being facetious!)
Looks like they switched the feed to the Sharks HD feed midway through the game.
Well, it's now over. At about the 12:00 mark of the 2nd period, MSG HD is now gone.
They've replaced Rick with the Sharks guys (who are good too).
But wow - the PQ on MSGHD was much better than Comcast Sports Net's.
Full 16x9 screen here.
looks like its back to a csn feed on 774-1
