It looks like Dunder Mifflin may soon have to hire a new boss for its Scranton branch.

After more than half a dozen seasons on The Office, Steve Carell hints to E! News that he may not be returning to the hit NBC comedy after its seventh season wraps next year.

I am surprised he has stuck it out so long, considering his movie star status. Most movie stars see tv as beneath them and the ones that started in tv rarely go back.

I think he started out hinting, then when asked to clarify, he did pretty much straight out say it.

The Office has had a pretty good run. Most of the episodes are still pretty funny, but for me, the number of groan momements in on the increase. I think it would be better to go out on their own terms and on a high note than to let it drag out for several more seasons.

I admire him for sticking with the show this long and not finding some way out of his contract as other TV actors have done after making films.

I don't think the show will be quite the same with Michael. :)

Yeah he musta had multiyear ironclad contract or he would bailed along time ago, I still admire him for being active in both mediums for so many years. Personaly I never watched The office I never got the humor and am still surprised the show is still on the air.

It's the right decision - the best seasons of The Office are behind us, imo.

He said he had a 7 year deal, but in all honesty, he does not strike me as someone who would leave. He has said recently that he just can't beleive he is sought after for movies and is sure that is a few years he will not be getting any work at all. He is far from an egomaniac from what I can tell and seems genuinely thriled and appreciative that he is paid so well for doing something he loves to do.
