If you have more than a year left on your contract then they probably won't offer the deal to you. Why would they give it to you for free if you agree to stay for another year, when you are already obligated to stay for at least another year? That wouldn't make sense. I'm sure the people getting this offer are either out of contract and can leave DirecTV at any time, or will be out of contract soon.

Posts #266 and #273 seem to say they're in a similar boat and got deals. Was just curious for any other opinion.

Just called in and ask them to remove sunday ticket max from auto bill. Without asking she offered me ST max for 199 - 6mo $20 off. Last couple of years I got it for free but I'm willing to pay 80 bucks:)

I called retention - ended up with ST Max for free with a 1-year term commitment. Also ended up with a $10/month credit for a year as well :)

I take umbrage that you classify those who decide to pay for Sunday Ticket as Morons. :nono:

I would bet that most people who don't visit message boards like this pay full price. That doesn't make them morons. Some people here would rather pay full price than play CSR roulette to save a few dollars. It's a choice they make and that doesn't make them morons either.

Hey I could pay full price, but I rather have that money in my pocket than in theirs.. What is the problem about that?
If you wanna pay full price, do it, save yourself the time to come to this forum. It's waisting your time, you could be buying something else.

I don't feel entitled to have anything for free, but they are not entitled to receive all my money either. I already pay about $1800 a year to Dtv, and if I can save money I will.

I subscribe to DTV via CenturyLink/Qwest, 5 year customer with 2 months left on contract after HD box upgrade. Called yesterday and spoke to regular customer service rep, told them I was thinking of canceling ST (set to autorenew as Max) and if there was any promos/discounts available. Without hesitating he said "no there wasn't" and offered to take the autorenew off my account. Told him not to and I wanted to think it over. Figured the autorenew was my only bargaining chip at this point.

Called again today and this time spoke "cancel/close account" to get to retentions. Asked the same question, this time she looked up my account and said I was eligible for 50% off either package: 148 for Max or 99 non-Max. I went with the non-Max for 99 since I don't care about the extras, was told I can get Max at anytime for the extra 50 if I changed my mind. They were having system issues and she couldn't apply the discount but said I was definitely eligible and gave me a phone number with a PIN to call back later and get it applied.

I'm guessing because I go through CenturyLink my discounts are handled differently, for the last 3 years 50% off is the best I've been able to do. Haven't pushed it hard though since I think it's a fair price to be able to watch what I want and have been happy to get what I did.

I know that ST was somewhere around $400 last season on the PS3. Does anyone know if the rate will be reduced for that platform as well in 2012?

    Craziest thing happened!
I just called in to ask about the one year commitment and free st and the csrsaid my account already showed I was getting ST MAX for free this year and there was no contract extension! I am out of contract and I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I asked her to make a note on the account regarding this to make sure there was no confusion in the future in case a charge came up and she said no problem.

I also asked about the home media center and she stated it was 399 but I was eligible to get it for 199.00. I then mentioned one of my tvs was the samsung un55d8000 but dhewas unsure if that was DLNA compatible as I wanted to return one of my hr23s if I got the media center. I held off on that for now but hopefully st max is free for me this year with no additional commitment! Has anyone else received this offer?
