I checked my bill today and they forgot to take off the auto-renewal price. So I called them up, they checked my bill and took it off, so now I just have the reduced price on my bill.

I jokingly asked if he could take off $80 bucks this month for the inconvenience - tongue in cheek of course - and he says let me see what I can do for you that won't get me in trouble. How about $5 off for the next 3 months?? Really, I was just kidding bro. He says you can use an extra $15 bucks, can't you?? Well of course I can, thank you very much.

A little sarcasm can make people hate you, or it might just get you an extra $15 bucks. Very nice of him to do that.

So let me get this straight. You called and asked for ST free and they not only said yes, but gave you the additional credits?

As an 18 year ST subscriber what do you think I can get?

Called this morning....said "Cancel Sunday Ticket" at the prompt. CSR gave me ST Max for $24.99/month for 6 months as well as $10/month credits on both HBO and Showtime for 6 months giving me ST Max for $30.

Not free but I'll take it.

    I love DirecTV.

Just called and got retention, asked for deal on Sunday Ticket and movie channels. Offered me free Sunday ticket if I added all the movie channels for 1/2 price $24 per month. Thought that was good, then asked for the NFL max and after a few minutes gave me the NFL package for $300, then gave me a $300 credit. My family is happy with all the movie channels and I get Sunday ticket for free. :)

Just want to say MANY THANKS to everyones negotiating skills. Took what I read here, called D*, got retention, and GOT DEALS!!

All I really wanted was ST and RZN!! Havent had in 7/8 years!!

I got free ST AND RZN. Free Showtime for 12mos (whatever). Free Stars/Encore for 6mos (again whatever). And the kicker, upgraded to ChoiceXtra (had grandfathered Total Choice), they waved the HD monthy $10 for 12mos and gave me $20 for 12mos.

I did have to commit for another year, like i was going anywhere, been with D* since 98!!

Thats a $30.00 credit per month!!!

Another year I ask (and get it verified over the phone) for a sports package not to auto-renew and sure enough it does.

I don't need Sunday Ticket anymore since I moved, and sure enough, the auto-renew is showing up on my bill. Last year I had to call twice to not get LP, CI, and EI not to auto renew, now this year I'm going to have to call twice just to not receive ST.

This system is very annoying and I'm sure really gets at people who don't watch their bills closely because it's not showing I'll have to make my first payment until AFTER week 2 starts therefore forcing anyone who thought they cancelled to pay at least 1 payment.

    Fix this Directv. Please.

I called up and was able to get Max for free, which was what I wanted. Didn't ask for any other discounts. I can't justify $100 for the streaming of games on my IPad, etc. Not interested in RZC (have with FIOS TV and never watch it) or Short Cuts. Only took a few minutes to have completed after saying "cancel sunday ticket" at the voice prompt.

I was wondering if you will have a choice which package you want to subscribe to on the D* website before it starts billing. I was looking at my account and it says ST Max with no option to choose the package choice. I don't want all the extras, just the basic package.

I did what you said. Saying 'cancel sunday ticket' at prompt.
Didn't get retention, Got a 'NFL' csr. (as he called himself)
The best deal I could get was ST for $150. Max thrown in for free and they will credit my first payment of $25. = $125

I called in about a month ago and wasn't able to get a great deal because of some of the credits I had on my account from last year's negotiation for Sunday Ticket. I got a $100 discount off of the Sunday Ticket Max making it $200 as well as 6 months of Showtime for free.

I called back today as one of those credits dropped off this month and was able to get a $200 one time credit. The lesson here is that, even if you had already negotiated with them, you can always call back and see if there's something else you can get. The worst thing that can happen is that they say no!

Spoke to a wonderful Retention lady from DTV. I am just out of contract, so was able to score $30 in discounts for the next 12 months and ST w/ RZ for signing a new 12 month contract. She would not budge on Max, but I am happy with what I have!

Made my annual call to DTV tonight. At the prompts stated "Cancel".

Immediately connected to a CSR, Mya. Simply and politely asked if there were any discounts available for the ST package. She explained the current pricing and stated that I could have the ST for $100. (I wasn't interested in ST Max).

I then stated I was a long time subscriber (DTV & ST since 2000), and asked if there were any additional discounts that would apply. She then said "Oh yes, you can have it for free with a one year commitment." She also added the RZ for free.

I was sure to let Mya know how thankful I was for her help.

There is no need to bitch, whine, and snivel. Politeness, honesty, and sincerity goes a long way.

Just called, said "cancel" twice at the prompts. Spoke to a guy, was nice, asked for any discounts on Sunday Ticket.

Got ST Max for $150 and a 12 month credit of $20 (I already have the free HD credit).

Not the greatest deal, but I'm satisfied.

This is the exact same deal I received when I called on Friday. By my calculations DirecTV is paying me $90 to watch football, so I did think it was a great deal!
