Sunday Ticket: $200, ST MAX $300

    I went directly to retention.

    After securing an extension of free HD for a year, I asked about Sunday Ticket. She offered ST for half price. I asked her to throw in MAX at no additional charge. She offered MAX at half price, minus a one-time $20 credit. No contract extension was ever discussed.

    Basically, I got ST+MAX and HD for a year for a total of $130.

    Could have been better possibly, but I'm not too upset.

    I just called and got the following:

    $10 credit for 24 months (HD credit)
    $20 credit for 12 months
    NFL ST for 50% off (4 payments of $24.99)
    Free HD DVR upgrade (replaced SD DVR) and free install

    I did ask about the HMC HD DVR but the best I could get was $299 but got a free HD DVR upgrade instead so that should help my recording pinch that I was in. My contract did reup for 24 months since I had an equipment upgrade but I'm not going anywhere soon.

    Retention was extremely nice and she never treated me unfairly. I just talked about spending over $2K a year + the WGN/Viacom issues and $10 charge for HD and she worked with me. It's nice feeling like a company actually values you as a customer. I wasn't looking for free (although free can be good). I'm able to pay my bill now but didn't think I was getting a fair value. Now I do!

    Basically, I'm out of contract, but had first payment hit from renewal of ST Max. Called last week, wanted to cancel ST altogether, CSR offered $150 for ST Max. Actually got same quote twice, since first time my cell lost reception. I took it upon being offered the same deal. I know it's not the super deal that some are getting, but I didn't have to recommit to a new contract. Being in Philly area and not having CSNPhilly, if FIOS comes into my area, I figure I will have a very difficult decision to make.

    Just spoke to Dtv CS and was able to essentially get paid 7 dollars a month to keep Sunday Ticket, plus get Red Zone. Not as hot a deal as some, but since I am just through my first of a 2 year contract can't say it was too bad of a call.

    ST - Auto Renewed at 32.99/month
    $10/month HD Discount (6 months)
    $10/month Sports Pack Discount (6 Months)
    $5/Month Starz Discount (6 months)
    $5/Month Showtime Discount (6 months)
    $5/month HBO Discount (6 months)
    $5/month Cinemax Discount (6 months)
    RZC Free

    So all in all not a horrible call I made. I still have a few weeks to call back and go for more, but also don't like being too greedy. Good luck to everyone else!

    Last year, I got ST for half off.
    Last month, checked my account, saw it was renewing ST as the Max.
    I called CS, told them I wanted the basic ST, rep billed me 6 months at $32.
    Yesterday, I wanted to add HBO to see Hard Knocks (Dolphins fan) and see what my contract status was.
    When I called, I said contract status and the CS rep asked why I was calling. I asked what my contract status was and he said I have no contract.
    I've been with DirecTV since 1999 and haven't gotten any new receivers in a few a years (I can't remember when we bought our HD DVR).
    I ask him about HBO and out of the blue, he says, how would you like free NFL ST Max?
    Stunned, I said yes, and he credited the first month I was already billed. Took $5 off HBO too, said I can cancel HBO after a month (which works for me since I was only going to keep it until HK ends in 5 weeks).
    Wow!
    Needless to say, I'm pretty happy.

    Called last week, didn't get to retention and wasn't offered much at all. Called back today and asked if I was under any contract, which I wasn't. The CSR was very polite but didn't have all that much to offer. Then, he asked if I would like to speak to Retention as they had much more offers available and they should be able to help. Retention was also very polite and offered ST for $99, $20 off my bill for 12 months, free HD DVR upgrade for one my non DVR, whole-home DVR installation including dish swap for $25, and free wireless internet connection kit. I was happy with the offers. I don't feel entitled to get anything for free, but do appreciate the gestures. Shame that you have to call in and plead your case to get them as a loyal customer, but it only makes sense for them from a business perspective not to charge people less than they are willing to pay.

    After talking to 2 CSRs this is what I ended up with too. I'm gonna call back in a couple days and try again.

    I had called a couple weeks ago and they wouldn't budge. The CSR did tell me to call back in August once the new billing cycle started. Apparently I had too many credits applied and she couldn't add more. The 2 largest ones dropped off in Aug.

    So when I called today they didn't offer any credits just canceled my ST with MAX and added it back but at $24.95 with one free payment. Still not bad but I was aiming for free.

    Just called about ST a few minutes ago...

    5 year sub, Premiere with FS+, MLBEI, NHLCI...

    Last year I got ST and NHLCI free and this year I got an HR34 and installation free without having to buy Whole Home.

    I didn't think I'd get ST free, but the Retention rep asked an interesting question when I told her I didn't think I could afford it.

    She asked, "How much could you pay"?

    I told her all I really wanted was Red Zone Channel, but it was not sold a la carte. Since STMax is $299 and ST is $199, I told her I'd be willing to pay $100.

    She immediately offered STMax at half price, $149.50.

    I can't complain after all the free stuff I've gotten over the past 2 years.

    well you know that I got the standard ST for free.. it was $99 with a $99 credit..

    but I called two days ago, and just asked if the rz was included in the package.. so.. after talking to Paupea New Guinea.. I was finally transferred to some one in Utah.. ( the last time I checked it was still part of this country).. and just asked if red zone was included in what I was getting.. hmmm.. said the little girl.. ( they are all little girls, since I am now 55 ) and then she said,, well I don't know how to add it without just giving you Max..
    so she did.. and still no extention..

    I still don't have a dvr at home.. (for one, I can't afford the extra $5 to my bill) but they are pushing me to take it.. if my kid moves out and I shut her service down, then I may take it.. and they keep asking about my locals..

    fat chance on that one.. unless you guarantee in stone and blood , that I won't ever loss my distant networks..

    gees if I ever get both the twins and the Brewers,and Bucks.. Directv will be almost perfect for me..

    Your still nervous about losing your DNS feeds? I am living proof that it can be done. I still have all DNS feeds HD and SD and still have all locals too. Now DirecTV has even given us a few locals from a neighboring DMA as well.

    All set for ST2012. Currently 6 months into a 2 year contract (2 new DVR equipment upgrade)

    1. Called 800 DIRECTV
    2. Said "Cancel Sunday Ticket" at prompt
    3. Talked to CSR and told her I need to pay less for Sunday Ticket and I've heard from some "friends" who were able to get ST base package for $100 or ST Max for $150. I told her I'll take whichever one of them she wants me to buy since I really don't have to
    have "the extras". Of course she took the $150 - Gave me 6 payments of $24.99.

    For me, I go for the win-win in this annual negotiation process. I personally don't feel right getting it for free, but I'm also not going to pay "list price". I pay what I think it's worth to me and $150 felt right - however, knowing that the first year I had Sunday Ticket I paid $139 (no HD, RZ or Remote View) and 12 years later I'm only paying $150 does feel like a great deal and that I got a little more of the win.

    I have too many credits with my 5 refferals and $60 in credits from Directv monthly and a free DVR..so the rep i called told me to cancle the ticket, watch the FREE promo week of ST and call the following week when they will lower the price...no biggie as my bill is about 10 bucks a month. I always make sure sign up people from work every year with the ticket promo! :D

    Thought I'd share my story. Called yesterday about getting the Redzone channel for free like I have the last 2 years. Said "cancel" at the prompt in order to speak to someone in retention. Ended up with a nice lady & I explained to her I was calling about getting the Redzone channel again as I've gotten the past 2 years. She put me on hold for about 2-3 minutes. When she came back on, she said she couldn't find anything for the stand alone Redzone channel but of course, offered me the Sunday Ticket for $99 and ST max for $150. I told her thanks but no thanks, all I wanted was the Redzone channel. She then told me the she could give me an extra $10 credit for the next 12 months so:

    ST Max $150 - $120 credit = $30 for ST Max. SOLD!!!!:icon_bb:

    Called last night, got ST for free, $20 off next 12 months, $5 off HBO. Renewed for 12 months.

    Made the annual ST phone call earlier today. Before posting more, I noticed that I wasn't routed to Retentions like I had been in past years, "cancel" twice at both aut-menu's. I am using the 800-357-4388 number so that might have something to do with it. The past couple of times that I've called D* to get to Retentions, I've said "cancel" at the 1st auto-menu, then I reach a live person, a front-line CSR. This is what happened today.

    Called, the lady said "I don't see any deals for ST". So I asked if this was the Retentions Dept. She said "no". I aked to be routed there.

    Acct status prior to my yearly ST call:

    - No active credits on acct
    - Long-time Autopay customer
    - Out of contract since Oct '10
    - Per D*, top-tier customer (pymt history, etc).

    I was routed to a nice "Denver Bronco" lady from the Colorado call center. We talked NFL for a while before getting into the specifics of making a deal...Tebow, Manning.

    Her 1st offer was for free ST Basic with a 1-yr contract. That was the deal that I had set as my goal before placing the call, so it was a fast deal for me. She had asked if I was interested in the Max services, and I'm not as I have no interest in To-Go, Shortcut or RZ. I've rarely watched RZ during the past couple of NFL seasons.

    I then asked about the HD Access fee, since my free 24 months had expired last month. She reactivated another 24-month free HD for me.

    I called in 2 days ago. Got nowhere when I said cancel at the prompt. I removed ESPN GamePlan and then proceeded to attempt my yearly pitch for lower ST price. She first offered only $5 of Max. I ended up getting $10 off 6 payments. I rejected it and politely hung up. Earlier this year I got the HT34 for basically installation costs o maybe I'm maxed out or maybe just a bad CSR in the roulette. Also wondered if I wasn't in retentions....

    Called for the 2nd time to not get Sunday Ticket to auto-renew and I think it went through this time. Wasn't trying to get any deals because I don't need it anymore, and they didn't offer.

    I had an interesting suprise today..I got my statement online today from D* and I noticed a credit.. I am a new subscriber to D* and they gave me Sunday ticket for free, so great, but I bit the bullet and ordered Max for $99..4 months $25.., but on reading the Bill I see they are crediting me the $25 and giving me Max for Free..

    Go Me !! Go Pack !!!

    Here is my experience. Called about one month ago. Got a very nice lady who was very informative. I told her I had never had NFLST before and was interested. I was not interested in the Max. Have no plan to watch any game on my iPhone. She said she could give me NFLST for half off - $99.00. She said that my HD credit was about to expire so she renewed it too. Pleased at that point. Checked online and she had also given me a one time $25.00 good customer credit. So $75.00 for NFLST. Before I hung up with her she told me to call back in one month because I had one other credit that was about to expire too. Well yesterday I called back and got another very good rep. Explained to her what I was told. She said that was correct and re-uped my other $10.00 credit. I then asked her if I could just have the RedZone channel. I had heard it was nice and wanted to see. At first she said no but with further checking she added MAX for free. All and all a very good experience.
