well he said I needed a whole new dish and because of the way my current dish is mounted, he would have to put the new one either on the roof or on a pole.
I called regular CSR number after I got a notice in my July bill that ST for 2013 was gonna be 6 payments of $34.49 plus extra for max. About a month before I was told by Retention that I would be able to get the ST Max package for the same price I paid last year which was 6 payments of $24.99. The CSR said there were no packages other than the $34.49 X 6 one available.
So I called Retention direct and they now told me the same thing $34.49 X 6 was the only package available. So I told them to cancel my ST subscription. It looks like they are now offering the reduced packages by including credits, etc.
So I'll keep calling back till I can get a reasonable offer out of them. I'd be happy with the $24.99 X 6 payments for the ST Max package but maybe I can work an even better deal.

Any equipment upgrade is a 2yr commitment. You should have been transferred to a third-party company who records the call and makes you say "Yes" to agreeing to the 2yr agreement.
Just called, got Max for the regular ST price, so $225 and $5 off for three months. I think getting The Genie upgrade hurt me here. Might try back in a couple of weeks to see if I can get something better.

Was that Retention? That is not a deal. You should of said no. Now depending on how they gave you the $5 off, that could hurt you in getting a better offer.

I got to the NFL ST Services. The $5 off was for paperless billing, so something unrelated. Wasn't much of a deal, but I took it.
Last year I did call twice to get it down to $150 for the season, calling about two weeks apart. I wish I had mentioned that I had to get the upgrade due to my receiver malfunctioning. See what happens.

I definitely didn't do that. Not that I'm planning on leaving D* as long as it's the only option for ST. I'll have to check the installer's paperwork and see if there's any mention of it there. Thanks.

About a month ago, I was able to get to retention to speak to them about a deal on NFLST simply by saying "terminate service" at the prompt which asks why you're calling. "Cancel Service" or simply "cancel" or "terminate" has worked for others in the past as well. You know you're getting retention when the automated voice asks a follow up question about why you're cancelling your service - I think it was specifically about whether I was cancelling it because I was moving. But a couple of weeks ago I called about a free upgrade to Genie and none of this worked anymore. I spoke with the non-retention CSR and when she couldn't get a deal for me, I politely asked if I could speak with someone in the retention department about my request. She then transferred me with no further questions asked and I spoke with a very helpful retention CSR who got me my free Genie upgrade. So, I suspect you just have to ask to speak with someone in retention. I wonder, though, how long it will be before Directv gets wise to this just like they appear to have gotten wise to "cancel" and "terminate" and start instructing CSRs to not transfer people to retention unless they overtly say they're thinking of dropping their subscription with Directv. The road to retention keeps getting harder.
Long time lurker new member. Last year I was unable to get any deals because I signed up after the beginning of the season the year before so I was still in the first year of my contract. Yesterday I called and tried different things at the voice prompt trying to get to retention but never got the second prompt. Finally I just decided I was going to cancel ST because I really wasn't going to have the funds for it this year. When the rep got on the phone I just told her I wanted to cancel ST before it auto renewed because I wouldn't be able to afford it with my other expenses at the moment. She was able to give me ST for $29.99/6mo and then give me $33/mo in credits to offset the cost. Then she asked if I knew anything about ST Max and I told her I wasn't really interested in it but then she said I could have that free if I wanted it so I told her I like free. She also told me to call back once my credits expired because they always had stuff going on for current subscribers. Pretty sure I wasn't in retention because I never got the second voice prompt just transferred right away.
I called last week and got Max for half price plus a $10 per month credit for 12 months, so ended up being $27.96 for Max (4 payments of $36.99 for a total of $147.96, minus the $120 credit over a year). I'm under contract for another year (I got Max free last year for upgrading to a second DVR and the two year contract that came with it). I'm happy with the deal.
Just called, did cancel, cancel. Told the CSR that I was interested in Sunday Ticket and heard that other long time customers like myself had been getting the service for free. Looked it up and added it. 1 year commitment added, she said that didnt matter since I had more than a year left anyways, not that it mattered to me at all. Either way 10 minutes and free for this year.

I'm glad you got a deal that made you happy. But I just called D* today and after being a sub since 1998 with NFLST every year ,they wouldn't give me a deal as good as yours. I have never been late paying my bill.
I tried to get transfered to retention but was informed I was still under contract for another 30 days from a HD receiver I added 23 months ago( I didn't know HD receivers were cause for a two yr contract,I thought it was just the HD DVR's ).
I really hate calling and trying to get a deal.
But I'll try again next month . If I don't get a deal for NFLST maybe it's time to looking at cable and Dish options.
First, it took me about 4 calls before I got the second prompt ("are you moving?")- I tried using "terminate service" but that did not work. For me, saying "cancel service" at the first prompt worked, it then asked a follow up question, to which I answered "cancel"- then I got the "are you moving" question. I answered no, and then was transferred. I am just assuming I made it to retention.
Got a very friendly person- first offered a small monthly discount. But for Sunday Ticket, the offer was 6 X $38.99- only $11 off per month.
Long story short- I asked several times if that was the best they could do, and was told it was. We moved on to the monthly discount, and I was able to get them to increase those discounts.
Finally, I again asked about the ST discount, and it was then I was offered Sunday Ticket Max for a total of $75- (Sunday Ticket free + upgrade to Max).
So, bottom line- I got ST Max for $75 and $35 discount on my bill for 12 months- for a 1 year commitment.
Basically getting almost $700 in savings for 30 minutes on the phone- very happy........
Thanks. I had no luck yesterday, got the Max for the price of the regular ST. Will try in a couple of weeks. I am planning to cancel Center Ice which I got last season due to it being $60. I am pretty sure it will not be that cheap again. Hopefully this will get me to retentions.
Third call was the charm! Called back today & received ST Max for $39/mo for 6 months and $30/mo various bill credits for 6 months. Happy customer again!
