Still no dice for me. But did reach a really sweet lady who tried everything to get me Sunday Ticket for free or a big discount. Still have too many credits from resigning up last september. According to her I will get more deals calling in September. She felt bad and threw in 2 months of premium channels & sports pack for free and I didnt even have to sign up yet for ST. Getting caught up on Season 8 of Dexter was worth the call.

    Been with DTV since 1999.
Got Max for free last year.
Called, said cancel, asked for reduction on $95 monthly bill and free ST.
Rep said can't give out Max two years in a row, but did offer me half off monthly bill and $37 a month for Max for 4 months. Half off, right?
    I think I did OK.

Just thought I would let everyone know my sweet deal :smoking:

Called and asked to cancel. Spoke with James and politely asked if there was anything he could do to lower my bill. I also said I was interested in any promotions for ST. He noted that I was a loyal customer and that I have had NFL ST every year since 2000.

    What I got:

Current bill = $136.05 (Choice Xtra Classic with HBO)

    • $20 credit for 12 months

    • $15 credit for 15 months

    • $10 credit for 12 months
+ Sunday Ticket promotion for ½ price 147.96

    • $150.00 credit for NFL ST

Politeness and being a subscriber since 2000 will get you far. :righton:

I have gotten substantial discounts and/or even ST for free for the past 7 years by monitoring this board and contacting D*.

I just called also using the cancel cancel prompt and got free ST Max with 1 year commitment, Last year I had the discount for ST Max for a little over $100 for 3 months, what's surprising is that I didn't have to talk much when it came up free on his computer, and basically I answer yes to every respond to the agreement, In and out in 5 minutes.

Just called and spoke with a regular rep who got it down to 38.99 for 6 months. I said no and asked to be transferred to retentions. The retentions lady told me 36.99 for 4 months, then got it down to 23.99 for 4 months. She wouldn't budge on that or offer any other credits/stuff so I said I'd talk it over with family and call back.

144 is fine if push came to shove, but not nearly as good as what you guys are getting so I'm just gonna call back later.

Any tips for my next call? I asked the lady when my contract expires and she said 8/17/2013, so that plays in my favor I guess.

Try again with another call. I've had to do that a couple of times during the past few years.

I've learned one thing based on my experiences when I've called in for my annual ST discount requests. There's not a lot of logic that can be applied as to what correlates to receiving ST discounts.

For example, when I called last summer, I had been out of contract for 2 years but according to the Retentions Rep that I talked with that day, that didn't seem to have much effect on what I was offered.

At that time, I'd been on Autopay for many years, a Premium sub with no pymt issues since signing up in '99.

She had also tried to tell me "Don't believe everything you read on the 'net", when I mentioned discounts being received by other DTV customers. I didn't argue with her even though I knew she was inaccurate about that comment.

I also had no credits on the acct when I called this year. I try to keep my credit "bank" open for the annual ST deal. I've received ST free for 2 years, counting this time.

This year, I had a great experience with a free offer for ST Max and several additional pkg discounts in addition to a free Genie upgrade.

So who knows.... sometimes it feels like I'm in the Matrix when I make the annual call.... "Tank, I need an exit'

Heh, she said I'm eligible for Genie. That's basically a whole-home DVR, right?

She also gave me the "yeah, what you read on the internet is crazy" schtick. Made me kinda feel like she wasn't a retentions person even though she was who I was transferred to after asking to be transferred to retentions, lol.

Just got off the phone with a wonderful retention rep. She threw the bomb at me, or at least I think so.

FYI, DTV customer since 1999. Don't have any HD DVR's but do have HD receivers (2).

Anyway, here is the deal I got. Oh, currently have no credits on my account. I have gotten some discounts in the past for ST, so I'm back again for another go at it. Last year, had to play telephone tag making 3 calls to just get a small discount. This year, read on...

She didn't even bat an eye. Just told her I was looking to lower my bill and could she do anything with ST.

Came back and gave me ST for free. Then gave me 20 off my bill for 12 months and 15 off my bill for 15 months. So that is 35 off my bill for 12 months then another 3 months with an additional 15 off.

Then she asks me if I want a Genie. What's my cost? Free, she said. So here is the rest of the deal. Free Genie, with 2 extra Genie clients. Sorry but I do not know the technical name for the client boxes in the other rooms. Anyway, she gave me the cinema kit too, all for free. Oh, I need a new dish. Free. Installation? Free. Jackpot! My receivers are older HD models and I can keep them. This was verified by 2 more departments at DTV. I was taking no chances in having to supposedly return them and did not, then be charged for not returning the equipment. I can keep the cards too, and they will stay on my account, deactivated, not showing up, but if for some reason I need to reconnect one in a spare bedroom for guests, all I have to do is call and reactivate one.

So, even WITH all of this, the DVR service and the cost for the clients per month, I am still coming out with a bill that is about 15 dollars less than what I am paying now. With the additional equipment cost and DVR service, my regular bill would increase by around 21 dollars per month. I am getting 35 off for 12 months, so I still save 15 a month on my bill and in the process, I get ST free, Genie install with new dish for free.

I think I did pretty good and it was actually an enjoyable conversation.

Having a good standing account and a few years of service really does help, I called expecting no free or discount Sunday Ticket, retention dept does better deals than regular CSR's but is not always the case, That's what happens when monitoring this forum.

One thing to make sure of when you're talking to a CSR and getting numbers is the difference between ST and ST Max. The rep I talked to was giving me numbers for Max and then said, you know, if you don't want Max, I can give you ST and RZ for free. All you need to do is agree to a one year contract...not an extension mind you...one year from that day. I still had about 6 months left on my contract anyway.

Customer since 1996. I finally got around to calling this morning. I was offered (without any prompting by me) Sunday Ticket with the Red Zone for $19.99 for six months. Plus I was offered 12 months free DVR service and a $10.00 a month credit for 12 months. So, I put money in my pocket. I also asked about the price to upgrade to Genie and was told that I am eligible for a free upgrade. I am a very happy camper today. Love my Directv.

Called Sunday. Got Free ST, but no Red Zone for 1 year commit. I'm happy. Wasn't going to pay for it, and not planning on leaving D* anytime soon. I think I had Red Zone last year but seldom watched it. I just asked politely. Took 15 min.

Just got off the phone. I was able to get ST for $29.99/month plus an additional $25 off my bill for the next 6 months. So paying $4.99 a month for ST is pretty good if u ask me.

I placed my yearly call to Directv and I was not forwarded to the retentions department right away (I only was able to say cancel once). So my first over from a regular CSR was $32 per month for Sunday Ticket + $25/month in additional credits. I balked at that one. So, she came back with an offer of $29.99/mo. Again, I said no and asked to be transferred to retentions. The offer I got from retentions was free Sunday Ticket Max plus $20 off for 12 months. I asked about the Genie offers but was told there were no current offers but to wait until my one year agreement ends in August 2014 and as the retentions CSR put it, they will throw all kinds of equipment upgrades to me at that point. :righton:

Overall, not bad for 20 minutes or so of my time. :hurah:

Called yesterday and said "cancel service." When I spoke to retention, she gave me ST Max for free, a free upgrade to a Genie, $25 off my bill for 12 months, and $15 off my bill for 15 months. I did have to sign up for another 2 year agreement, but I'm a happy camper.

Just made the annual call. Said terminate service & got right to retention. A nice lady named Corine was able to get me Sunday Ticket plus Red Zone for free, free upgrade to a Genie, Starz free for 6 months, Sports Pack free for 3 months, Showtime free for 4 months, a one-time $30 credit on this months bill & a $100 prepaid Visa card. I had to sign up for two years but where else would I go? Very productive 25 minute phone call. She did say that the protection plan that I have will give me a free upgrade every two years so I guess I'll keep that service.

Just called and am happy with what they offered me:
    1. $20 off premier package for 12 months
    2. $10 VIP HD discount for 12 months
    3. NFL ST Max for $36.99 x 4 months.
The person I talked to said there were no promotions for NFL ST for me since I got it for free last year, but there was a NFL ST Max for 1/2 off. So I am happy with $360 in discounts and $148 for NFL ST. There was no committment increase either.
