I would of called back. It does not matter if it was free or not last year. Might call back again anyways and just say that you are reading from alot of people online about getting it for free and see if they can give you some credits to offset even that cost.

Just got off the phone with retentions.

To preface I was not under contract. I have been a customer for just over 2.5 years.

Told them I was looking at switching to Verizon FiOS and Sunday Ticket is what has kept me with DirecTv before. But they do offer red zone and for the right price I'd switch.

    So they offered:

    - Free Sunday Ticket
    -$15/mth credit for a year
    - $75 upgrade fee for Sunday Ticket Max
    - 1 year commitment.

I could have probably saved a few more bucks but I'm at work and I felt it was a decent deal. Get Sunday Max and save $105 over the year.

I just called and the best they would do was $148 half-off offer for Max. I got the line that they couldn't do it two years in a row. They didn't offer me the $50 credit. I even enquired about getting just ST, no Max. No deal. Full disclosure: within the past year I got a free HR34 and some monthly credits to my account.

I declined the offer, but they gave me a pin number and a phone number if I want to call back and get the offer. I really don't want to add $37 to my monthly bill. It's high enough already.

So I declined. I guess it can't hurt to try again tomorrow.

Had called two weeks ago and was told to call back today as today is when my commitment is over.

I am a three year subscriber...last year I was given ST and RZ for free...plus $20 off my package for 12 months and $10 off HD. Total of $30 savings and lots of great football.

First call to Retention resulted in being offered a total of $25 off for 12 months but no ST and would not budge. Would give me Showtime for free for several months or some equipment.

Second call five minutes later...$20 off for 12 months and Sunday Ticket for $12 a month. (although not positive that I talked to Retention this time...forgot to ask. She did put me on hold for five minutes while trying to put together an offer. She gave me a number and a PIN to call her back.)

So I am frustrated right now. Guess I will call back again and see what I can get. Wife is very interested in the new X1 from Xfinity...so maybe that could be a bargaining chip.

No, they have several months. And I have a commitment because of the HR34. I guess that puts me at a disadvantage.

How are you getting to retention? BTW, the $25 off is a total of $300, the price of ST Max.

I just said "cancel" at the two prompts. If you saw my post, last year I had $30 off each month AND ST for free. That is what I am hoping to get this year.

No go...the Retention lady was very nice and said that free ST skips a year. I am not eligible for it this year but could get it next year. I could not even get RZ. She did give me $25 off a month for 12 months and free Starz/Encore for six months. No commitment on anything. Oh well....

Oops...I got Showtime for Four months as well...I didn't even ask for that.

I am possibly moving next month...she did say I would get ST Max for free and all new Genie equipment if I move.

The game is ST free one year and bill credits the next year I guess. They could also give you a one time retention credit for the price as well. There are options.

Maybe it is true in my case? Out of the three Retention people I talked to, she was the most helpful by far. She even went as far as looking at what specials I would get in case I do move (which now I see we will be next month, so this is all moot right now). She even tried to give me RZ but it would not come up on the computer for her as an option. I agree that maybe since I have only been with DTV for three years, I may not have the clout as some others. But I do believe what she said....and it was told to someone else a page or two back in this thread as well.

Here's the deal I got. Been a D*/NFLST customer since 2000. I was off contract when I called with only a lingering $10 credit. I tried to bundle together a Genie install with NFLST discounts. First rep told me "no dice" even though I was off contract, so I asked to escalate rather than play the "cancel" game.

Escalated rep was beyond nice and right away offered me:

Free Genie with 2 slave receivers and free install.
    Free NFLST
Free Red Zone Channel (didn't need MAX and I told him I just wanted RZC)
$15 off bill for 18 months

I had to commit to 2 years, but I was ok with that.

Asked If i could get NFL Sunday Ticket and they said 29.99 for 6 months going to try again to get ST MAX for lower price or for free again 300 dollars is just too much for it.

What # are you guys calling to get the retention dept? I keep calling 800-531-5000 and say "cancel" and/or "close account".. Just keeps saying "hold while I connect you".. Nothing about "are you moving"??

In the past, some have setup a move and the benefits go into play right away (free Sunday Ticket and free Premiums) but you just cancel the move before the date you planned to move and keep the freebees. Not a nice way of doing things and I have never done it myself but have read of others who have done it. Some even reported it was Retentions idea.

It does not work perfect every time. If you dont get asked the additional questions, you can just ask the rep answering the phone if you can speak with retention. They usually ask if you are going to cancel and I just say maybe.

I got ST Max free also, called retention using cancel service prompt, and it does ask additional question "are you moving?" Which I said no and it patch me through, I didnt have to say a word other than "I'm interested about ST" and right away it showed the free or half off deal on the reps computer. and basically transfer me to confirm the deal with a few questions and that was it, Only took 5 minutes, but being a long and prompt paying customer is the factor, Also got free Genie upgrade HR44 the last time I called retention, and I was still under contract with no Protection Plan required.

Nah I'm done with it. Like I said, $98 is a fair price to me. If they'd just charge $100 every year i wouldn't even bother with the annual song and dance.

When they first pick up, do you guys get the "I have you as 386-626-XXXX, is this correct" message?? That's how my call always starts.. I say "yes" then it says "Main menu", that's when I say "Cancel".. Then straight to holding for a rep..

I guess if nothing else, I'll just tell the rep Im interested in closing my account and I imagine I'll get transfered to retention then, huh? lol..
