The installer just hooked up to an old dish on my property called the "superdish" does this dish make a difference in the type of programming I receive?

It may or may not. What programing are you subscribed to? What receivers?

The super dish only sees 110 & 119 of the current satellites in use. They were designed to be used with satellites DISH was leasing. I believe they did make a kit to allow one of the super dishes to see 129.

The installer said I can see 110 119 118 but I'm only getting a few channels that I can watch for free on 118. In order to only see the channels on the guide for 118 do I have to subscribe to them or can I still see them on the guide?

118 is DISH's international satellite ... plus Racetrack TV.
Unless you subscribe to an international or Racetrack TV 118 isn't needed.

The Superdish was originally intended for 110, 119, and 121 locations, but Dish doesn't use 121 for residents anymore. But the Superdish can be coverted for 110, 119, 118, and 129 locations.

There was also a 105 SuperDish. The 121 satellite is still in use for a few business channels (including several for Wells Fargo). The 105 satellite is not part of the DISH DBS tables.

Do you need anything on 118? If not, get yourself the correct dish for your area ... a dish aimed at 61.5 and 72.7. (You don't need 77 unless your locals are on 77.)

IIRC, there is a kit to convert a 121 superdish to a D1000+ or the like.

In any event, if you are not getting all the HD chanels you should, DO NOT HESITATE to call the installer or call Dish and make the installer comeback and give you at least a D1000+ for 110, 118, 119, 129.

It is better for the installer if you call him first, so he does not get a charge back and loose the credit for your install, but do whatch gotta do.
