I called the Loyalty Department recently to see if I could get them to swap an owned D12 SD receiver for a owned C61K client. She said that she would be able to send me a free C61K but it would be leased. I figured she would say that. In fact if she said it would be owned I wouldn't have believed it. So I de-activated the SD receiver and will dump it in the garbage can.

Oh man you should have waited a few more months.
When they stop mpeg2 SD transmission they will most likely have to send you a free receiver with no contract renewal.

They have already contacted all the SD customers by now. Anyway, they aren't going to send people with owned SD receivers an owned HD receiver. Nothing in the trade in offers I've seen indicates they will treat owned and leased SD receivers any differently, everything you get is leased.

I think we should stop using the Term Leased. Nothing on your bill says Leased. It is a charge for how many TVs watched.
Maybe call them ATT Supplied receivers and clients / minis ?

Per the DIRECTV Equipment Lease Agreement..."You understand and agree that you did not buy the Equipment, and do not own the Equipment, and must return the Equipment as explained in your service agreement with DIRECTV...".

You have active SD receivers (D12 or similar) on your account and the mailing address they have for you is correct and they never sent you a letter? Where do you live?

I have two receivers, an R-15 and and R-16. They have the correct mailing address and I have not been contacted (I'm still receiving the bills so I know the address is correct.) I live in Raleigh, NC.

If you're talking to me, No I don't. Due to line of sight issues, I can't get HD service.

    Well two things then...

One it sounds like they haven’t started sending out notices to all markets yet, which doesn’t surprise me. I don’t think everyone will get one till sometime this summer.

Could be they will do the notices in waves as well, with one wave being people who can do self swaps of equipment based on what the system says they have, and one for people who will require a truck roll.

Second, just to be sure when did you last have them check? Do you have programming that cane from 119? It’s not many people who can’t get 99 and 103 if they can get 101. But 119 is a different story. Since there has been things posted that suggest the main stuff from 99 and 103 will get moved to 101 you should still be able to get service after the mpeg2 shut off and they will still need to switch out your boxes and I’m guessing they will try and install a new dish then again.

It looks like Raleigh is one of the later DMAs to be shut down, probably sometime mid to late summer though we don't have exact schedules. Since they were sending out notices to other affected DMAs a full year in advance it is strange you haven't received anything.

If you have LOS issues to 99 or 103 then you will be out of luck when they drop your locals. You should probably start checking for alternatives, or figure out a way to address your LOS problem by cutting down a tree or whatever.

As the trees in question are in my neighbor's yard, cutting them down might not be an option. Raleigh isn't called the City of Oaks for no reason. :)

Tell them that reducing the length of the limbs will increase it's wind resistance in the next hurricane and possibly keep it from toppling over.

My dish is above the garage. There is a large oak tree that appears to block the LOS. I sat on the garage roof with a couple installers a few years ago and they couldn't figure out why I had no problems. Both of them said they wouldn't even try putting the dish where mine is if they had to do an install. The tree's a lot taller now and wider. Dish hasn't moved. I wonder what would happen if they just gave a dish a try.

99 & 103 are SO close to 101 it is hard to believe trees can be an issue. You sure you aren't think about the old days when 110 & 119 mattered?

My dish is actually aimed through a narrow slot between the two trees. I'm surprised that I don't have more issues with them. The LOS issue was verified both by the technician that DirecTV sent out at the time, as well as a supervisor that was sent out to review the situation when the technician indicated that he couldn't obtain LOS.
