I was in the same boat last year. I ended up getting the last episode of Season 1 (Walking Dead) through Netflix when it was finally released on DVD. I wish AMC was available in a lower package...or that we get a free preview again for Season 2!

Not to muddy the waters, (ok, a little), but here is what is says on the website:

"A programming change fee of $5 is applied when you remove services within 30 days of adding them (Waived for new customers in their first 60 days of service)."

So, based on that wording, it DOES look like that additions of programming in less than 30 days will not incur the fee?

I can only tell you that of the many times I have changed programming within a month, I have NEVER been charged a fee when I added programming.

And your quote is correct and direct off the website - change fee is only charged when removing services within a month.

Just thought about this though: If I up from AT120 to AT200, and then 2 weeks later go to AT250, would it be considered "removing" AT200 to add AT250?

That sure sounds to me like it works the same way as always in regards to programming upgrades.

Once you upgrade, you have to keep it 30 days OR be subject to $5 fee. The old policy was $5 for any downgrade... so this represents an improvement to the customer for allowing downgrades after 30 days without fee.

Maybe there are some confused CSRs who are misreading and trying to apply $5 fees to customer upgrades. I surely couldn't believe it would be official policy to charge a customer to add programming even if that customer called every day to upgrade. A company should want customers who are so happy today that they call back tomorrow and want to spend more!

If that is true... then I wonder why CSRs (and at least one of our DishIRT reps posted in this thread) are sometimes telling customers that there is a $5 fee no matter what.

Also you can upgrade programming through your 722 except for AEP.

Programming Change Fee – a fee that is charged if the customer removes programming in 30 days or less from the date that same programming was added. The Programming Change Fee is a cost of doing business for handling the phone call to make these changes and is intended to discourage frequent service changes.

The Programming Change Fee is charged if the customer changes services in 30 days or less from the same service being added or if adult services are removed or exchanged in 30 days or less. The Programming Change Fee is a cost of doing business for handling the phone call to make these changes and is intended to discourage frequent service changes.

However you slice it... this thread was started by a person who was fearful of adding new programming now because he thought he would be charged a fee... and another person posted that he was told this by a CSR.

I love my Dish Network... but they long have had a reputation for misinformation or inconsistency in how they explain services and fees to their customers.

Dish isn't the only company that has this flaw... but for the purposes of this particular thread, this is an example of where Dish directly loses some money by having customers who fear upgrading because they think they will be charged a fee that they will not be charged.
