In their never-ending battle to get more subs to take the premium channels, DirecTV is offering a "free trial" of STARZ! from 11/23/11 - 11/27/11 which includes the entire Thanksgiving weekend INCLUDING the Wednesday before!

I learned about this from an insert in my bill this month. It sure is nice to get a paper bill!! ;)

I think this is a pretty good offer, but I do chuckle. Directv pushes the PPV pretty hard. They want techs to install the high speed internet function which really makes having premium services kind of moot. Just my 2 cents and ymmv.

You could call and ask for reimbursement for the value of this "gift," which is what...5 days of Starz, a $12/month pack, so that's about a whopping $2 gift. ;)

Look, I know the free previews for HBO, Showtime, Starz, ect. are a promotional gimmick to get customers to subscribe. What paulman182 and I are saying is when your a long term Premier sub you shouldn't be taken for granted nor have to stoop to calling DirecTV and play "Lets Make a Deal".

I was being sarcastic, but if you want to nitpick, then we can. First, you probably received an anniversary gift. Second, it's not "stooping" to ask for possible discounts; it's a smart consumer practice. What's the worst that could happen? They say no...big deal.

Aren't these free previews done by the channels themselves and not D*?

    Generally - yup!

After all...they're promos to encourage folks to get their channels/services.

So, that being said, why should D* provide something for those that already subscribe?

You just don't get it. It's the principle of the matter. Let me give you a example. I and a lot of subs have been subscribing to NFL Sunday Ticket along with it's yearly increases since Christ was a corporal. It's currently over $300.00 a year. How do you think we felt when DirecTV announced it was giving free Sunday Ticket to new DirecTV subscribers and those using the movers connection? And long term subs are supposed to call and negotiate?

I'm one of those long term ST subs, too. It's a promotional tool to add subs. It's also a personal choice to sub to the extra package that each consumer can choose to do so or not. You feel it's below you to call; so be it. I'll call every year and at least ask. You want it all and don't like others getting it for less. If you bought a nice new TV for the advertised price at a walk-in store, and your neighbor loved it and went to the same store, except they negotiated and received a $300 discount...would you be up in arms like this?
