Yes, tuesdays at 10pm. I hope the fact that its airing so late at night doesn't hurt the ratings.

How many days will I be starting with, 7?

Whatever the last place person currently has. Currently six, but probably 7 assuming they missed the roadblock answer (and assuming I can find out actual times... usually the show noted the time but they didn't this episode).

A Fast Forward puts you back in 1st place though.

Also I'll be implementing the new Yield as well. ;) Details will show up in tonight's post.

Hopefully more people will enter. Maybe a blurb can be added at the top of the pages advertising the contest. Survivor had the link and that's how I found out about the contest.

The detour questions killed me being late answering. Also, will you be providing what the correct and/or winning answers are for detours?

Maybe a blurb can be added at the top of the pages advertising the contest.

I'll leave that up to the admins if they want to advertise it even more or not. They did mention it twice on the front page, and I posted in two separate areas of the forum about it and will continue to do so.

I'd love to have more people play, but 10 isn't a bad minimum. There are only 11 teams in the actual Race after all. ;)

The detour questions killed me being late answering.

Guess you should have chosen Detour 2 then. ;)

Also, will you be providing what the correct and/or winning answers are for detours?

The trip distance between Santa Monica Pier and LAX varied depending on which point for each you used to measure the distance. The average answer was 11.39 miles, but other routes existed as well.

Tusk was the only one to take Detour 2. He gave me correct route information, centering his travels on Delta 175 from ATL to LAX. That flight left Atlanta Wednesday morning at 8:54am, and will arrive at 10 am at Gate 57.

When researching this myself, I found a few alternate routes that would get one to LAX faster however. The trick is that there weren't any flights all the way to California from Atlanta leaving after 11 pm Tuesday night. However there were a few flights going to places like Chicago or Dallas that one could have made. Leaving from these locations Wednesday morning, you can get an earlier arrival time in LAX than from any flight originating in ATL.

However Tusk wasn't challenged on the issue, and thus got the day subtracted from his score, giving him the lead.

Danny - time each team leaves the pit stop will be in the next episode. And, the time they all arrived may be given as well, but the leaving time has always been given in the past. Subtract 12 hours, and that's when they got there. I've never seen it given in the current episode - always in the next one.

Only 10 participants? I was hoping that was only the top 10 list. I guess my 5th place isn't as impressive as I thought. :)

There you go. It won't stay up there for more than a couple of days, but maybe it will bring in a few more people tonight. :)

    Danny,

Finally got to watch last night's episode tonight. Hopefully the delay (over two hours since you posted the new questions, near as I can tell) won't cost me. I'm wondering if other people also watch it a night or two after it's aired, and if so, if you might consider waiting two or three days before posting the questions.

Also, I was thinking about your rule that people who join the race late start in the same position as whoever's last. Seems to me, then, that my best strategy would be to have my wife join in the last week and use the Fast Forward. No need to play weekly if you won't ever be worse off than whoever's in last place. I really think there needs to be some kind of penalty. Maybe -1 day for each week you don't play, and no using the Fast Forward on the week you first start playing? Or maybe no Fast Forward in the final two or three weeks?

I can also guarantee I won't be quick to respond on two weeks, because I'll be travelling. I'll have internet access, but won't be able to get to it until well after the questions have been posted, and even then, on dial-up connections :( Seems like due to this being a race, I'll be knocked out of it when those weeks come up. Not a problem w/the Survivor game, but certainly one with this, although I guess I'll save my Fast Forward until I get back to try to compensate. Not sure what else can be done about that; I'll keep giving it thought and see if I come up with suggestions.

I can see Mark L. sitting back and laughing, and saying "Danny, Danny, Danny, you really didn't know what you were getting into, did you?"

Seems to me, then, that my best strategy would be to have my wife join in the last week and use the Fast Forward.

I did think of this. The fast forward won't be available the last week of the race (read the rules). And the potential for more than 1 fast forward being awarded diminishes as the game goes on. Also more of the top contestants will want to try for the Fast Forward towards the end. Thus it becomes harder to win it the longer you wait.

And finally, remember that the fast forward just TIES you for first. It doesn't put you in sole possession of it. In the event of a tie, the person who plays just 2 weeks won't win.

I can also guarantee I won't be quick to respond on two weeks, because I'll be travelling. I'll have internet access, but won't be able to get to it until well after the questions have been posted

I thought of this as well, although I don't have a perfect solution. Week #2 features a question that isn't immediately known at the time of the posting of the question (the local newspaper headline). As the contest goes on, other such questions will appear, giving folks with different access times a better shot at getting in first. Then of course there is the fact that there are 2 routes to take. In Week 1 only 1 person answered Detour 2. Someone could have easily taken that one with a little research and answering it the last day. I'm going to try and keep both of these styles of questions in the mix as the days go on.

And finally, if one does have to answer late in the week, there is the chance that spoiler sites will help you score well on the standard questions and offset the penalty you'll take in the race portion.

I can see Mark L. sitting back and laughing, and saying "Danny, Danny, Danny, you really didn't know what you were getting into, did you?"

He's probably right. ;) However I hope I've come up with an interesting contest. I'm just disappointed more folks aren't playing, although those of you who are playing aren't making it easy on me. *grin*

OFFICIAL RULING: The time between the 1st place team and the next to last team was 51 minutes. Given the tightness of the teams, I'm going to rule the 30 min to 1 hour timeslot as the winner.

Nobody picked that timeslot. Tusk came closest by picking the 1-2 hour slot. If evidence shows up in the future verifying this time, I'll give him credit, but for now having no winners seems fair enough too.
