Taking it, and I'm not going through DirecTV's mover connection. If I do, I lose all my west and east coast HD DNS channels, even for going up one frickin' floor!

Hmmm...are things heating up again? I just came back from the leasing office to sign the mountains of new paperwork for my new place, and lo and behold! There's this brand, spanking new form called a "Satellite Dish Addendum." Now, I'm not saying it's illegal or impermissible; rather, it's new and unusual. I asked Amanda point blank, "Is this new form all the result of me being souch a troublemaker over my dish?" She replied, "Yeah, after you came to us armed with the FCC regulations, corporate put together this addendum."

Just for schits and giggles, I mentioned this to Lisa McCabe at the SBCA, who called me literally within 60 seconds of Emailing her this info--damn, those people there act FAST! She asked me to Email her a copy of this addendum so she can go over it with a fine, tooth comb to see if any part of it violates the OTARD rules.

The biggest pain in the ass part of it is my landlord's insistence that I must use a "through the window transmitter" to get the signal from outside to inside.

We'll see. Looks like this ain't over just yet! :D

But hey, at least my new digs are sweet. Love the new appliances and all.

Are they suggesting you put your dish inside your apt and aim it through the window?

No. They're suggesting I leave it outside and get the signal INside through this "through the window transmitter."

I'll have to post a copy of this addendum here shortly (with some info redacted, of course).

I spoke to DirecTV corporate about this already, after Lisa McCabe from the SBCA called me in response to my Email. They're sending a tech out Saturday with flat cable so we can avoid this "through the window transmitter," something of which DirecTV has never even heard.

This is outrageous attempt to block all of you from install dishes !
I recall FCC OTARD document specifically mentioned it and prohibit such conditions.

Maybe, maybe not. That's why Lisa McCabe of the SBCA wanted to review the addendum.

UPDATE: Just got off the horn with my attorney. He said that while we wait to see if this addendum is permissible under the FCC's regs, he may go to circuit court to get a temporary injunction enjoining its enforcement. He said if he's able to get that, and if the SBCA deems this is in violation of the FCC's regs, we may sue for a permanent injunction as well as damages (he cited some legalistic mumbo jumbo where the management company is clearly trying to flout the law and leave me with no possible legal and feasible alternative).

Just when I thought everything had calmed down. Oh! I can't WAIT for this Sunday's gathering of the neighbors! :D

Don't know if it would work with a satellite dish due to the power needed for the LNB. I've also seen cell phone antenna for cars that use a method to transmit the signal through the cars glass windows.

That's just one of many reasons why it won't work.

Hopefully flat cables will be ok... Maybe you could try a Jedi Mind trick "This is not the dish you are looking for..."

    Something like this.

Remember, I don't need the entire length to be flat--just the part that goes under a window frame or something like that.

I still like the sound of a TRO anyway. :D

Forgive me if this a stupid question.....but what damages have been suffered? I'm not understanding how you could sue for damages.

I know. I think he meant something like the hassle I've had to undergo--hassle and harassment that never should have occurred because of the actions of management. I think he was hinting at punitive damages and not compensatory ones. Truthfully, I'm not looking to sue; just to be able to do what I want with minimal hassle.

Both of them look pretty good. I wonder if any brick and mortar store sells them, just in case the DirecTV installer shows up without any.

You can probably find the standard one in most stores that sell coax cable (Radio Shack, Home Depot, etc) but I doubt you'll find the cool super-flat one in a store.
