Once, ESNE, Enlace, INC TV, Arirang and MHz Worldview are all P/I channels so they have to be in all packages, while Aqui and Ganga are paying. CGTN is a free channel so they're either paying for its spot on the lineup or making some other compensation as they stream online for free. At one point V-me was too, but they gave up their P/I status a while back and became a Spanish tier only channel.

I'm not sure if it's still the case after the latest round of rights, but at one point Univision Deportes had English audio on the SAP feed for their exclusive MLS games.

No major providers include CNN en Espanol in English base packages, nearly every provider has it in a Spanish tier. If ATT/DirecTV were to suddenly include it, it would open up a can of worms with all their competitors like Hola, NTN24 and ForoTV demanding equal treatment since ATT now owns Turner via Warner Media, as well as competitors DirecTV doesn't currently carry like Milenio Television, and potential lawsuits if they say no.

I don't believe AT&T is afraid of worms.

But they are afraid of lawyers, and aren't they pretty much the same thing?

When is Univision Networks up for renewal with DIRECTV satellite service? Will Univision Deportes be due at the same time?

The Univision deal was last renewed in 2016. Univision Deportes, Tlnovelas and ForoTV was added with the renewal prior to that.

They still do. This started back at the start of the MLS 2015 season. Prior to this Univision had Spanish exclusive rights to those games they aired but teams could still have their regional English broadcast. But with the new TV deal that started in 2015 Univision gained the English rights to those same games which is how they started having English audio on the SAP feed. Now listening to said English SAP in the early days of this on the other hand was unlike anything you will ever hear in sports broadcasting ever. And I don't mean that in a good way. Ramses Sandoval sounded way too excited and throwing around such stunning descriptions such as "the white bullet" and "the green rectangle." Then we got Paul Caligiuri who has to remind us at least 10 times an broadcast of his infamous shot heard around the world from 1998 or whatever year it was.

At least now Univision has a decent announcing crew for their MLS games but.... man.... it was very bad for awhile.

Edit: Here's an article describing how bad the commentary was.

In many of the top 20 DMA's it's actually the other way around. Telemundo's local stations have higher local Nielsen ratings than their sister NBC affiliates, especially in local news and key demos, ie. KVEA in Los Angeles, WNJU in NYC, and WSCV in Miami. Throughout California, Texas and the southwest states similar situations with Telemundo locals consistently outranking the Big 4 affiliates. And they're even stronger for the Univision affiliates vs. the Big 4.

The network itself averaged over 1.5 million viewers in prime time in 2018, consistently across all 12 months. Their national ratings dwarf the vast majority of cable networks being carried by DTV and DISH, especially in the young demos 18-34 which the Big 4 have been shedding for years and hardly have many left, especially CBS.

So basically, in the most "expensive" local markets for retransmission consent, in the top DMA's, it's NBC that needs Telemundo for its carriage negotiations, not the other way around.

Given that AT&T now owns CNN en Espanol they can easily expand its distribution (in the English packages) just like they're doing now with CNN International and Boomerang.

The best argument they can use against the other Spanish news channels is that CNN en Espanol is the only USA domestic Spanish-Language news channel. The others are news channels from Colombia (NTN 24) and Mexico (Foro TV and Milenio). The domestic angle merit argument.

I only speak one language, and it not well, but I enjoy sports content on the Spanish channels from time to time. Even people who I cannot understand are preferable to Joe Buck or Tim McCarver, and I know what is going on anyway.

Monday Night Football is better on ESPN Deportes, too, after the train wreck of English announcers they parade out there.

KyL416, I was wondering if you know anything about this Univision/Televisa situation? Rumors are that Univision is working in buying Televisa of Mexico that supposedly are in financial trouble.

I've got the Ultimate package, and I don't get anywhere near all those foreign channels - I get 321 (of course), 402, 404, 456, 464 & 2095. That's it. The others don't even come up when I try to tune them in. Am I missing something? (Spanish, or probably more realistically, Spanglish, is my "far distant" second language, so I could at least make an attempt at watching some of the stuff there)

Does your dish have a 119, or RB capable LNB??? Also, couple of those channels are on the 95 sat, which now can also be received with a RB LNB.

I think you have to request Spanish channels or programming package then an installer installs a different LNB that can access the Spanish channels

I'll take fox sports crew any day over Disney

The Braves were on Sunday night on Disney the other week and the Braves hit a home run and the Disney commentators had no emotion at all . As if a home run is not one of the most exciting moments in baseball...

That's like if an NFL team scored a touch town and the commentator didnt show excitement

It seemed like to me a couple years ago when watching Atlanta United matches that for the guy doing Play by Play that English is not his first Language.
