Any updates on Sportsman’s Channel?
The following Italian channels are in test mode on the 95 location:
2021 Rai Italia
2022 Rai News 24
2023 Rai World Premium
2024 Rai Radio 1
Great, but wish they had put them at least on 119 since 95 is much more work to set up. The 3 French Canal Plus HD channels and TV Japan HD are on the main birds (not 95) so they're much easier to get...
The other Italian channel Mediaset Italia is already on 95. 119 is also pretty much filled to capacity with the Spanish and Cantonese package channels. They could squeze a few more, but not enough to bring another language package over.
The only reason why the Canal+ channels, TV Japan and SBS are on 99/103 is because they're carried in HD. While Arirang is a P/I channel to fulfil a quota. TV Japan also has the benefit of being a freemium channel where their news programming is available to all subscribers with live English dubbing for many of their newscasts.
OK, makes sense that they would group the RAI channels with Mediaset Italia, did not remember they had it.
These additions to 95, however, makes one wonder whether the speculation of 95's shutdown and international channel transfers to 101 (after MPEG 2 goes away) are anywhere near in the horizon.
They're adding them to 95 because that's the current location for international channels. Whether 95 goes away and those channels move to 99/101/103 next month or not until the end of next year there isn't any reason to put them anywhere but with the rest of the international channels.
DISH also dropped them last Wednesday. Wonder if AT&T will drop these.
Nope they went live on Tuesday. Dish dropping them is probably why RAI made a deal with DirecTV in the first place. DirecTV also added TV Japan and Mediaset Italia around the time Dish dropped them
So Dish's $19.99/month Italian package is now comprised of TV2000 and La7, both of which stream online for free worldwide via their websites. It also has Euronews, however thanks to the recent changes Euronews made where they split the languages into seperate channels instead of having one video feed with multiple language tracks, the Italian version is no longer available in North America.
Or vice versa ... Carriage contracts end (even for channels on DIRECTV). If RAI can get more money or "better" distribution from DIRECTV why not move their channels.
Directv might be a better home for international channels soon, since the requirement for the second dish will go away next year. That would make it possible for channels to have a "free weekend" promotion like premium channels do to help market themselves.
It already is for me even without the migration from 95. The 3 Canal Plus HD channels is the best French-language package out there. They just need to add TV5 Monde-HD.
And the HD PQ on these 3 stations is among the best on DirecTV. Don't know if this is because the French have a different compression standard or DTV is assigning them more transponder bandwidth.
Notheless, still looking forward to the migration of all the internationals from 95 and hopefully the top names will be converted to HD.
speaking of international channels:
I wish NBC would do a nationwide HD feed of Telemundo (my market does not have a local Telemundo)
also wish D* /att would add Television Dominicana again
Anyone wonder what Donovan means by this?
Thirdly, we're evaluating our program lineup. Content is the largest and fastest-growing cost of any video offering. We're evaluating our channel lineups and taking a fresh look at how we can align content cost with the price. It's also about what customers want. And many want smaller, value-based video packages.
That means they are going to offer cut down packages to maintain the cut down prices that cord cutters want.
I was wondering about the cost of having all those channel packages? I guess they are paying for all those channels four times, I mean the main cable ones like TBS, SYFY, USA ect.
281 Velocity is rebranding to MotorTrend on Friday 11/23
And for those with young kids, the Santa Tracker is returning to channel 110 on Wednesday
Any changes in programming or is this just a re naming?
It's mostly just a renaming
and the rebrand from Velocity to Motor Trend Network has now been completed. channel 281 is now known as MTHD on the guide, and there is still no SD feed.
