:nono2: I look for the base HD Fee to rise in March or April regardless in what we decide to do with the HDExtra Pak...If that happens its going to cause another stir in the Ranks..Hope I am wrong but my gut says we are going to be paying another 5Bucks regardless.....

Ok this is a dumb question I know, but I still get all of the channels, and when I check my account online I dont see anything at all about the extra pack. Is it a seperate line item? I see my base package, dvr fee, hd access fee, but nothing about the HD extra pack?

Subscribed and will pay...but not for another year. Spoke to retention and will receive monthly credit of $5 for 12 months. First month credit already posted.

How many years ago was that quote from? It certainly could not have been anything recent.

You are not paying to view the channels. You are paying for the right to view the channels. These two are not even close to being the same thing. It is 100% up to you to use or not use that right.

Um, Are you suggesting that the CEO of DirecTV had no idea that the sats were going to be launched?

    Smug much?

Really, he was specifically speaking about after the satellite launch, as that is what the interview was about.

Not Subbin---just dont have the philosophical fortitude to deal with nonsensical charges being irrationally explained by CSRs

maybe later--when I feel like a whack to my reasoning ability

I will not subscribe, I do not see the value.

I have Total Choice, Not TC Extra. So I also do not get, nor willing to pay the extra $5 for BIO, FUEL, GOLF, SPEED, NHL, SCIENCE, and VERSUS in HD. (as well as the extra discovery-type channels in SD.

But this is really a no brainer for Directv. If you subscribe they get $5 more (which I'm sure they have to split some with providers). If not you may have hard feelings but you stay "happy" with what HD you have for the $10 fee. To be honest, the $10 fee for the HD they now provide is really a bargan and I'm happy with that. (The 'standard' HD, I watch most of these channels, and I do find value. (Actually my wife does, and that's what's important)

If 1 to 50% subscribe, thats money in the bank for them. If 0% subscribe they just drop the channels.

Disclimer: I am not nor have I ever been associated with DIRECTV or any of its affilates.

I signed up when I thought I might lose HDNet which is the main one of the package that I watch (Torchwood, NHL, MLS). Then they saved HDNet, but I'm still signed up. I think I will probably stay, but time will tell.

Ummm, Earl ... We can vote "once per username".
For some people, that means they can vote very often.
P.S. - I didn't vote on poll because I'm still undecided as to whether I'll pay the $4.99 after the 3 free months or cancel it.

Well I think the poll results show that is a hot topic and validates the amount of threads we have seen on the forums about it.

Now if the discussion of the issue could continue as in this thread, i.e. actual discussion and no flaming, that would be a Christmas present to us all.

HDNet is not part of the Extra package anymore, HDNet Movies still is.

Now the question becomes is Smithsonian worth the money?

In my case I would have paid if HDNet was a part of the package.

I have found the programming on the HD Extra Channels to be of more interest than HBO. So, while not a trade-off, we recently canceled HBO and signed up for HD Extra. I wish I had the same choice on a lot of other programming.

I voted "Not Subscribed" because that's what the final outcome will be and I am now not subscribed. But I getting another HD DVR today for the new HD TV we just got and will subscribe after the Christmas travel just to get the three months free. But my wife and I have already gone through the 5 channels offered and decided there's just no reason to pay more -- and we both think this HD Extra Pack approach sucks.

Fortunately, due to the HDNet suit, they were not included in the HD Extra Pack. That would make for a very tough decision to pay $4.99 for one channel of value.

Like most others, I just don't get it. This "option" is the pits. There are many other ways for DirecTV to raise revenue. The oft mentioned increase in HD Access by $2 and the even more oft mentioned option for a la carte. I just added Sports Pack for one month (removed it today). I only wanted ESPNU for 5 games which happened to appear in that month. I would have paid $4.99 a la carte for each of these games, but got them all for the $12 one month charge. Since I only want 6 or 7 games a year on ESPNU, no other "option" is worth the monthly charge. So DirecTV lost $8 on the deal (and I saved). I don't think everything should be a la carte -- just the obvious "unique demand" type of channel. Sort of like the PBC single evening charge (how's that for a nice thought?).
