OK, sorry for all the posts -- just a little giddy right now.

Just got back from a week with the in-laws in Kansas, and after a 10 hour drive home, the first thing I do, of course, is to check my HR20 to make sure all the season premiers recorded.

Well, not only did all my shows record, but I got a bunch more HD to boot.

    I love being home again.

    And thank you D*.

    Time to go unpack now...

:hurah: I'm not very artistic this time of night so I'll refrain from writing a long poem, song, etc. I will echo what a lot of others are saying and thank all the good folks on the site for keeping us posted on the new HD channels. After seeing the new HD channels it would be a big step down to watch the SD versions of them! :hurah:

A good night to one and all!

Had put off reading the forum (lurker then) and was going to check back next week...

So installation was scheduled for this morning 8-12 (upgrading from DTivo).

Verifying installation with dispatch, the installer is on his honeymoon. But they'll send me a supervisor and a trainee. 2 -3 installs prior to mine though. Yeah right, they won't make it...

At 10am they called me they are on their way. At 11am they showed up. And I was waiting for them not to show, reschedule and hope to get some credits...

Convince the installer the new dish is too big for the front of the house and must be install behind. I'd help him running the lines. I actually ran all four lines. He just mounted the dish.

At 1pm, we finished. Tuned to the weather channel (not sure why) and WOW, IT'S HD !!! Found the 'HDTV listing' and see the bunch of new ones... Are they live ???

Now, at 2:30am, I'm done learning. Tomorrow would be figuring out the networking (already hooked up - why are there two nics ?)

I'm getting 45% signal strength on 103(b) yet the new HD channels are coming in just fine for me. What's up with that?

You only need enough signal to decode the incoming bits. You either get the channels or you don't. With forward error correction (FEC) and spread spectrum, you only need a small signal to get the goodies. However, you may still want to get a dish tweek since if you ever get a good rain storm you will likely loose the signal.

It was a dark and stormy night, the first rain in months, but I don't care driving home 'cause I got new HD to watch! So, I get home, all happy/fuzzy to try out the new channels. First thing I do is jump to Smithsonian. Nothing. Searching for signal. Uh Oh - I've seen some postings about folks getting this. CNNHD? Searching for... Animal Planet HD? Searching... ARRRRRRGGGGG! I'm hosed! It's not set up right! The multi-switch is bad! The BBCs *don't* really work! The god Murphy has singled me out for special attention! Quick, call DTV and see if they can help. Ring. Ring. "Your wait will be approximately 15 minutes..." sigh... listen to the rain pounding on the skylight for 14 minutes. The rain lets up. "Welcome to DirecTV, this is Sandy, how can I help you?" Steve Irwin suddenly appears on my screen. Hit the Prev button. There's good old Wolf Blitzer. Oh. Rain Fade. Heh. Never mind Sandy... :)

Isn't Directv the company currently using clips from real movies? I just saw one from Aliens with Sigourney Weaver. I forget. Anyways...taken from The Sixth Sense:

You see "channels" randomly walking around in the city. You're walking with a friend and you say -
    you: "hi def!"
    friend: "who was that?"
you: "i just saw hi def, you didn't see him?"
friend: "no, I don't get directv"

Then the little kid (joel osmet?) turns to the camera like the movie and goes "I see hi you?"

Who went all all even and never odd
With one call to tech support

I now enjoy all my HD delight.

The day I work, well, day shift, the HD Channels get turned on. Imagine how motivated I was to getout of work at 3:30 to get home and flip through every single one of them Women's Volleyball has never looked so good. "They say in Utopia the sky is made of diamonds", I say "they say in HD, everything looks glorious".

baeverly, can you get rid of the off-color and innuendos in that posting? This is "family-friendly". Verses 2 and 3 certainly don't meet that criteria.

Well after reading the good news all day I get home last night and hit 202:

I get black screen w/ "searching for signal on satellite 1" message, switched over to 267 and bingo it was there. Went to 362 and searching message again.

This morning I went down the list and this what I came up with "Searching for Signal message"

202 and 362 may or may not come.

Signal strengths are ok (67 +) on 103.

I just went to and "refreshed" the HR20 so maybe that will help. I will find out this evening.

    Any ideas or hints?
