This time of the year should be very damp and raining, dang it.
I worry about you living up there among the redwoods and hope you remain safe until the rains come again.
<<PS. That is Richard Parker the second giving my wife the evil eye stare.

That fire was started by campers that let a camp fire get out of control and then didn't even call in about it. They are already in jail.

Well, I missed posting something here in February, but not for lack of wildfires. There's a new one in Virginia that was reported 3:10 p.m. on February 28, 2014. From Fire spreads in Shenandoah National Park we learn:

Seems like it's time to take note that in the past few days we've had wildfires in New Jersey, U.S. Wildfire Season Comes On Hot As Two Blazes Rage In New Jersey....

...and in Pennsylvania, 900-acre Pa. Wildfire Creating Challenges for Crews ...

Meanwhile here in the California drought, CalFire employed an extra 230 seasonal firefighters starting in January instead of May who have been responding to over twice as many wildfire calls as would be typical for this time of year.

All-in-all it should be an interesting year for wildfires around North America.

Northern San Diego County is on fire - numbers of homes, apartments, and other structures threatened, thousands of evacuations are likely. Here's a map showing about where the fires are:

I'm in Temecula tonight and the smell is all over and we could see the smoke pretty easy. Someone said they heard they where all set by an arsonist and look what they are all around.

We have one going in California that could become a problem despite the resources -see Shirley Fire continues growing; 2,000 acres involved:

I thought the picture and the writing in the Bakersfield Californian was of a quality worth noting here.

Unfortunately, things are not going so well in Central and Eastern Washington State:

Weather can be strange. Usually we'd be closer to 108 degrees with a high fire danger rather than the current 68 degrees with a wet July. I guess I'll just be thankful.
GF did start to freak out when the satellite went out at the start of one of her shows last night due to the heavy rain.

Based on some recent articles, I was just wondering if you had been evacuated.

No. While we have some lightning-strike fires in our area, they aren't close enough. Here's a CalFire map indicating the general location of the fires while we're in the community labeled Brooktrails. As you can see it's mostly forest areas between us and the fires.

According to the Willits News Facebook page as of five hours ago the status of these fires known as Lodge LCA Fire were:

We've been hearing the helicopters and air tankers which go back and forth from south of us up to the fires and I keep the emergency frequency scanner on this time of year.

Hmmm. At this point maybe that distance doesn't look so reassuring as the update isn't as encouraging:
