quickfire, I wasn't dissing you, just a little fun here. Sorry if it bothered you!
Just had a courtesy call from a DirecTV representative. They are calling subscribers to insure they have the B-band converter. Since my install was in April '06 it was a pretty early one. I must say, though, my installer knew his stuff. I told the rep I'm all good to go. He wanted me to tune to 499 and tell him what it said - told him I already had.
I asked about the new HD channels and when would they be on. He said sometime before October - and said he could not nail it down any further.
Why do people continue to listen to CSRs? They aren't going to start moving the satellite into final position until tomorrow and that will take at least 3 days. Sighhhh.
quckfire whoa you could be right after all .
I talk with csr, waited almost an hour on phone
the crew at Directv are busy ,he did mention yes some will be in the morning
i just don't believe it cause how can the d10 sat park itself that quick ,when the move starts at 12am this morning
Big Ten Network maybe?
Most of the time it is 6am Eastern time when the new channels are turned on.
Maybe they'll shut down some other channels, PPV maybe, to get BTN and 'others' lit up and turn everything back on when D10 is operational?
What I know for sure. at 6EST, I will be asleep. No CSR needed for that bit of info. As for the rest, I suspect that the HD channels will come on line sometime shortly before we know about it. I would anticipate no afvanced warning. Just a BAM. If they tell the customer base it is coming, then they have to know it is ready to go 100%. If they know for sure, then they are sitting on the ability to go live. If they don't know for sure, then they could miss. When it is ready, they will have a go/no go meeting and throw the switch. My opinion, and I bet it is just as worth while as all the other dates I have read.
While I'm not holding my breath on the HD channels going live tomorrow morning, I did have a very strange experience this morning that may be associated with the possibility of some new HD broadcasts starting tomorrow.
This morning, I tried to watch the BTN but all I received were colored bars with a note on Big Ten Network Houston 4:3. After talking to two incompetent CSR who tried telling me that the BTN was not live yet or was not a 24 hour channel I talked to someone who finally acknowledged there was a problem and within minutes it was fixed. One potential explanation was that DirecTV got their SD feed and their HD test feed mixed up.
DTV will not add new hd to after the 7th
I was by a CSR last night that new HD Channel will be turn on tommorrow also.
Being new to the process of lauch, test of new birds is there anything else they need to do technically to get the programming to us? Seems like kinda short notice.
Sharpen up your pitchforks and start soaking your torches.........
I have no expectation for new channels to fire up on the first day of a 3 day, holiday weekend. But I could be wrong.
maybe they were going to cross their fingers, lite up d10 and run out the door for a 3 day weekend, if theres a problem deal with it on tuesday after many cheeseburgers and beer.
That get's my vote. I guess all of us with HR20's can just tune to 220 at around 0600 Pacific or so & see what happens
Is it possible for D10 to broadcast a signal before arriving in its final position?
I'll sleep fine tonight, although part of me wants to get that kids on Christmas Eve excitement...
CSRs and techs have told me my local channels would be in HD "by the end of the month. They just have to turn them on." That was in January. So, I am a firm believer of seeing it with my own eyes to believe it.
Really?? I've seen others that say otherwise...it's a conversation in the chat right now...
