I noticed that the other day as well. I changed the channel. OTOH, we watched the Blu-Ray of Quantum of Solace, and I was blown away at what a huge difference the bandwidth of BRD makes on action sequences.

    Delray...
Bad motion blocking on Hulk also. I could see it from 18 feet away on a 42" RPTV.

I think it depends on how the content is getting to your TV. I'm pretty sure what Cinemax was providing wasn't all broken up.

You'd be wrong. I've heard of similar PQ issues relating to Speed Racer specifically on Cinemax HD on a wide range of providers. It's not limited to DirecTV.

That's interesting, because I have noticed more artifacts on movies from Cinemax lately than my other HD premiums.

I watched it a couple of weeks ago and didn't notice any artifacting. That's why I suspected that it may be an isolated problem.

I checked over at AVSForum and most of the complaints were about the Blu-ray version on Samsung Blu-ray players. There was one or two posters complaining of similar problems with an on-demand order from their local cable company.

On DSL reports there was a FIOS subscriber that complained of "uber pixelization". It was the only entry I found in the first six pages of a Google search.

That's my #1 hope! Love Travel Channel and it's just made for HD. Well that and Bridget Marquardt is made for HD specifically.

    Delray...
    Close, 20/12. ;)

It was actually pretty easy to see. There were times when he was running around and the motion blocking was all around him.

It can be harder to see compression artifacts from the source when you're only getting 1440x1080 resolution.

FWIW, I had thought most of the premiums were looking better recently on DIRECTV. Then I saw the comments here and saw parts of The Hulk on both the east and west feeds of Cinemax HD - lots of artifacting during action - very noticeable on fire and darker scenes. (Sony Bravia SXRD KDS-60A3000 60" via HDMI from an HR21-200). Spot checking - the other premiums still look very good.

When he was running through those towels/sheets/whatever in Brazil, it looked like a youtube video. It was pretty awful.

It didn't help that I watched Wanted on Blu right before either. I went from crystal clear to...bleh.

In theory, the artifacting should be exacerbated by scaling as opposed to reduced by it.

What theory says that compression artifacts become more apparent when an image is downscaled?
